Smoking in the house???

I used to smoke inside of my last apartment all the time, but I was working in a bar too, so between the two I was just smoking way too much. I left the bar and moved into a non-smoking building on purpose so that I'd cut back a bit, which has helped immensely. I'm planning on taking a house next year; when I do, I'll probably smoke inside again, as long as I'm still doing well with keeping it under a pack a day[huh]

I turned my garage into a cigar lounge with a bar, TV, sofa, lounge chairs, neon lights, full size video machine (my friend made for me) with all the old games Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, etc.......so most evenings are pleasant except for the dead of winter.....then it's to cold for evening cigars.

I smoke in my house and always have. Since I live in a socially restrictive quasi-fascist country I can not smoke outdoors without breaking the law (There are no places that are actually 20 feet away from doors or windows or bus stops in downtown Seattle). Smoking on my porch or outside my building also violates the law. Smoking in my my own home is my only legal recourse for now.

Personally i dont think there a correct or justified reason for outlawing people from smoking outside. In my experience the smoke just goes into the sky and doesn't cause anybody any harm or discomfort, and smoking in your own balcony or yard should be a right i think.

I have had some nasty looks, a few forced coughs and hands waving in front of the nose as if to dispel a bad odor; but the only actual verbal comments I've heard have been positive: "I love the smell of a good cigar. My father smoked Cubans" or "That smells like a great cigar". While strolling the docks one day and smoking my afternoon stogie, a couple on a Sea Ray 32 invited me to join them for a drink (Knob Creek on the rocks) just so they could enjoy the aroma of my Punch Pita.

But smoking in the cabin is out. It leaves a nasty brown residue on the overhead and the portlights. I don't really mind the lingering odor but it can exacerbate seasickness in guests.

I used to smoke in the house when I was younger and nobody was home, but I'd be right next to a window and mainly because I didn't want neighbors to see me (they'd have told my mom since I was so young at the time). As for now though, I wouldn't smoke in the house, unless I'm at a friend/family members house and they already do smoke inside, but my own home I'd like to be smoke free, since I'm asthmatic and shouldn't be smoking anyways, I can escape to the fresh air... inside. lol

Every now and then I'll smoke a cigar or pipe on my back porch, but the vast majority of the time I smoke in my study. It's an upstairs bedroom I have converted for official man-use business.

While I reserve the right to smoke anywhere in my house I so choose (as I am the one paying for it), out of respect for my wife, I confine my fine tobacco product indoor enjoyment to my study, as she does not like cigars.

I clsoe my door, open the window (unless it's raining), and I have a little fan that I point out to suck out excess smoke. I also have an air purifier, so the smell doesn't invade the rest of my house (the master bedroom is right next to my study).

At our old apartments the wife and I both smoked indoors.

Recently we moved in together and bought our first house, a 1919 four square. Given that the house is a bit of a tinderbox and in amazing shape for its age, we decided NOT to smoke indoors. We have a nice front stoop and a covered back porch that are perfect for smoking. The rule extends to guests, even during parties.

It's not a big problem with cigarettes, but can be a bit of a pain when I'm enjoying a pipe or cigar.

I have a window next to the left side of my computer chair and desk.

My recliner is just behind the computer chair centered on the window.

Someone at work was throwing away a high-speed, dual-fan setup from one of the old instrument racks, so

I mounted it on its side into the window to draw out the smoke from my pipes or the occaisional cigar.

As I'm left-handed, the smoke gets sucked right out of the bowl or cigar tip from even about four feet away. A bit noisy however.

It seems to be more acceptable now that I just smoke a pipe, we've got a conservatory and so I usually smoke in there. The idea of creating a little smoking study is very appealing. Some people seem to like to refer to this as a "snug".

I smoke cigarettes in my study - a separate section/modern addition from the rest of the 1883 home. It is even set up so the central air and heat does not exchange to the rest of the house.

I smoke Camels. They are honest cigarettes not trying to pretend to be good for you. They leave no filters behind as trash and are, in my opinion, the best tasting tobacco in cigarette form still somewhat readily available. Man, I wish I didn't enjoy them like I do,.. but I do.

For cigars it's either on the front porch (we have conducive weather for this most of the year) or in my truck if I'm on a long enough drive. I like to really concentrate on the flavor of a cigar and make note of likes and dislikes.

I am a pipe smoker. As a general rule, I will limit my pipe smoking to a small study/library and, occassionally, the TV room. I rarely smoke anywhere else in the house as my two daughters are not big fans of the pipe. I also keep a meerschaum pipe on the front porch to smoke periodically throughout the evenings. John

I only smoke in the study or the TV room. Usually the windows are open so the smell doesn't linger. My son smokes but he has a separate suite with balcony upstairs above the TV room.
We never smoke in the kitchen, living room, or any of the downstairs bedrooms.

Outside on the patio for me. Really cuts down on smoking in the winter. I've got a propane heater which keeps me warm enough down to about 35 - 40 degrees (F) assuming it's not windy, but this has been an unusually cold winter for the DC area. In the next few years, I'm going to build a detached building and set it up as an office/study where I can smoke indoors.

In the winter time I smoke my cigars on the screened in back porch overlooking the pool and hot tub. It is mostly protected from the wind and cold. Summer I'm by the pool. I will occasionally sit on the swing on the front porch and enjoy a nice cigar. No inhouse smoking for us.
