Maltese Falcon Tie

Please only vote if you're seriously interested in owning this replica.

Here are our four main choices for color schemes (let's just look at the base color for now, but feel free to comment on the secondary colors in your posts):

From left to right, 1) Brown, 2) Red, 3) Blue, 4) Green

I was looking at what tie to do next for my line, and someone suggested this one from the Maltese Falcon:

It's a great shot... and a great tie... but what about the colors?! What do you guys think? Is there any information about this tie? If not, should I just make it up?? Any samples of similar vintage ties???

If this is a hand tint, it's a VERY good job. Posters show him with a dark tie, as well.

Looks like a reddish dark brown with a light brown / gold pattern.

Didn't somebody have a picture or link of the original suit Bogart wore in The Maltese Falcon?
Colors that went with the suit might make sense.[huh]

I think the tie should be Blue-Yellow-Red.

My guess is that it is a gray suit and not brown. A blue, yellow, red pattern would seem to be fitting for that. I could be wrong though since I am far from being the expert on such matters.

Similar to my thinking. I'd always imagined the suit to be a charcoal or navy pinstripe and the tie in blue tones with red, with some yellow or maybe green.

But I've got to say Wingnut's version in brown tones is great as well. Any chance of two versions - a blue version and the brown version?

Okay, here are some red designs, and some based on other requests(such as yellow over blue with red), and the unaltered tie for tonal reference:

...I lost a considerable amount of sleep last night watching the film, and Sam Spade's ties were mostly a plain black(or other dark color), or what appeared to be a light gray with no design. This is the only tie in the film that Spade wears with a design on it, and any sort of a sheen to it(most tie fabrics at the time had a satin-like or brocade finish). It's possible most of the ties in the film were wardrobe pieces specifically created to not distract the viewer and look a certain way on the screen - not commercial pieces, in other words. It's possible the tie we're looking at was the only commercial piece.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. The only problem with a poll, though, is that everyone votes, few buy. I would request that only those seriously interested in this tie vote.

I'll update the first post shortly with a poll and see how things go...

In Hammett's book Spade puts on a green necktie and grey suit when he goes to look at Archer's body.
He wears a maroon tie when he confronts Wilmer in the hotel lobby.
I don't know if that helps at all.
