Jaxon Bogart

I've been browsing through some fedoras for everyday use that I wouldn't be afraid of wearing for fear of getting a bit dirty and beat up. I came across a hat called a Jaxon Bogart. It claims to be fur felt, but retails for only about $70. Does anyone have any experience with this hat model? Is it really a fur felt that can be worn regularly without fear of rain or other everyday type conditions?

I do prefer fur felt, though for $70 it seems less than other fur felt hats out there. It's not a bad price point for an everyday "knock around" hat, especially if the fur felt is of reasonable quality.

I've picked up 2 Jaxon hats from Village Hat Shop. Neither was the Bogart, but both were fur felt (the Monk Pork Pie and the Rude Boy). Both were good quality for what I paid for them. The felt was stiff, especially on the Monk and changing the hat band was tricky. The inside liner has held up after a year of hard wear. It was cool because it let me play with the pork pie style for a few bucks. The Jaxon hats are a good hat for day-to-day wear or for a starter hat. Pick one up and play with it!

There is another, very pricey, one that is called B2B Bogart. I don't mean that one- but this plain "Bogart" that sells for about $70.

'B2B' means Business to Business, or in layman's terms, wholesale. That's the wholesale price to resellers for a batch of 6 of the same hat.

...funny that they'd put that in a spot where the general public can see it. Usually wholesale prices are only available to resellers upon request.

The B2B Bogart is the order ID/price for a size run of the Bogart, so it's the price for like 6 hats of different sizes. I was thinking of picking up the Bogart myself. This economy is forcing me to downsize my hat hobby.

They encourage peope to buy a run of their hats and sell them on ebay or what not. I thought it was odd as well.

Right now, due to exchange rates, the Akubra hats ordered from Australia are right in that price range and get very good reviews here, with high marks for durability and rain resistance.

I think the Akubra Fedora has a similiar crown and brim size to the Jaxon Bogart.

Of course, with the Jaxon you probably don't have to wait as long to get your hat.

Seems okay to me. I prefer it in gray, but in either color it's a decent enough lookin' lid. For 68 bucks, it's hard to go very wrong, eh? Although I've read that several guys here have snapped up Akubras direct from Australia for similar amounts (thanks to the exchange rate of greenbacks to Aussie bucks).

You're thinkin' right about this, I'd say. It's good to have hats you wouldn't cry over losing. Just keep in mind that many hats (most, actually) won't maintain that crisp, like-new look after repeated exposure to heavy rain and/or snow. This is generally less true of higher-quality hats, but even the big-bucks numbers have been known to taper and dimple and get kinda frumpy looking. But that's why you really need lots of hats, see, so that you don't wear any one of them too often. That's what I tell my wife all the time. It's actually MORE economical that way, see. She still doesn't believe me.

EDIT: Gumby beat me to it. But it's a point worth reiterating.

Bang f/ the buck, Akubra is going to beat the tar out of any Chinese made fur felt in the Jaxon line... my .o2. Everything Australian's Akubras are just a few $$$ more &, I assure you, a much nicer piece of felt.

Don't let price tell you what is quality. I have this one. Got it on sale over a year ago for good deal. Very soft and has held up well. I also bought the pork pie for 40 some bucks. Also, soft and they got better the more I wore them. If you like the Bogart, you might like the Detroit model. Some folks on this site talk about coupons from VHS, I think if you get on their email list, you'll get some to help to knock down the price some more.

I have the Jaxon Bogart in "grey" (though its more darker blue/brownish grey than it appeared in the website picture. Really, it seems to change tone of color quite a bit depending on the light.) and I like it a lot. Admittedly, I am not a hat expert, but its certainly the nicest hat I personally own.

I have a Jaxon crushable hat for occasions where I don't mind a hat getting beat up a bit. But of course, that one is wool felt.

I too have a gray jaxon bogart. For only around $70 I think it is a very nice hat and would recommend it to anyone.

I'm no expert at this but I think that an open crown hat is best if you don't want to get it de-shaped by bad weather. Because you shape an open crown hat yourself, you can always re-shape it if it gets de-shaped.

Happy with Jaxon Bogart

My wife bought me a gray Jaxon Bogart for my birthday, and it arrived yesterday (along with their "Porkple" that I picked-up on sale). I gotta tell ya, it seems like a damn nice hat to me. Of course, it is my first fur felt, and if fur felts are normally nicer than this, then I know what's next! Also, the "Porkple" is a much nicer hat than I would have expected for 20 bucks.

You know, the Village Hat Shop has a good customer base who actively reviews the hats they buy. You should give the reviews of the Bogart a read, it seems like most of the people who have purchased it are quite pleased with it, except for a some people needing to train down the brim in the front.

Sounds like a great hat for the money though, based on the reviews.

I played with it over the weekend, and the brim was a little reluctant to stay down at first, but with a little work, it's just fine. Before she bought the Bogart (she did ask what I wanted), I checked out the reviews and as they were overwhelming positive, I figured it was a pretty safe bet. On another note, I went to Lowe's on Saturday, bought one of those shelf kits and installed a hat shelf in my closet. It's of the type that can be expanded with the addition of brackets to take more shelves. I'll pick up some of those plastic hat stands, and I'll be all set.

I purchased a Jaxon Bogart in gray about three years ago. I wore that hat almost exclusively for two years, until I "replaced" it with a custom VS hat. While I now wear the custom almost exclusively, that says nothing bad about the Jaxon. I just like the style (look) of my custom better.

I cannot say anything at all bad about the Jaxon Bogart. It is a quality hat that held up very well to daily wear in good and bad weather. I believe it to be a very good hat for a reasonable price. I would feel safe in recommending it to anyone.

I have a Chatham but not a Bogart, so I can't really compare. The felt on the Chatham is nice, but probably not twice as nice. It does have a nice sweat band and liner, considering they are modern. I would guess it costs twice as much because you pay for the name, as Stetson is a lot more famous than Jaxon.

I also have a Jaxon Bogart in grey and it gets very regular rotation from me. It has classic good looks, it's comfortable to wear, the felt is quality for the price, and other than the afore mentioned time spent training the front brim I've had no issues with it. I recommend it with no reservations.

To the OP, it's been a couple of months now so where do you stand on this hat? Have you purchased one, or has another lid caught your attention by now?
