Movies with brim snapping and crown bashing and denting?

In the past I have seen parts of movies or TV series where the characters picked up their hats and snapped the brim and shaped the crown. I would to re-watch some of them via Tivo capture or by purchasing DVD's.
Can any of you give titles of movies where this was done in the movie?
Thanks

I know it's not what you're looking for, but my favorite hat scene is from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, when Jimmy Stewart meets Astrid Allwyn and all they show is him fumbling his hat.

In the “Captain Midnight” serial three or four thugs parachute in, then pull their hats out of their suites and take time to re-bash and put them on before going after the hero. I guess you have to look your best when getting beat-up by Captain Midnight.

I can't remember if they depicted it in the movie or not, but in the novel "Billy Bathgate," it is a character trait of Schultz's that he is constantly taking off his hat and re-shaping the crown with the side of his hand.

It seems to me that Spencer Tracy is always popping his hat on his head and slipping his finger along the brim to pull it down, and give it a nice tilt, whenever he goes anywhere.

Chinatown

I may be wrong, but I believe there are a couple of moments in Chinatown where Jake Giddis picks up his fedora and has to dust it off or reshape the brim. Certainly westerns capitalize on such moments.

I'll have to sleep on that

There are a couple right on tip of my tongue, so to speak,
but I can't recall at the moment.
Hatflick is right though; Jake gittes for sure.
D.C. Barton in the beginning of Alfred Hitchcock's "Number 17"
which is my favorite "hat movie"
Fairbanks in the Men's washroom in "Union Station"
Gable in "It Happened One Night" ?
Denzel Washington as he's leaving the station in "Inside Man"
My recollections may not include both snapping, and bashing;)
I can sure think of more than a couple of films where the person
should have rebashed the crown, and snapped the brim.

Good hunting, sounds like fun!

Cheers!

The Bishop's Wife was on last night and in one scene where the Bishop gets out of the car after ramming his head on the roof, he rebashes his hat, puts it on and snaps down the brim. This is right before he has to cowtow to get some financing for his new church from the rich widower.

Hi,

Not a movie, but just today, by coincidence, I was re-reading a The Spirit comics episode ("The Renaissance picture" or something like this), where the hero changes his appearance by means of (among other things) re-creasing his C-crown fedora into a homburg. There is actually a frame of him creating the necessary center dent on the crown by means of pushing in with the side of his hand.

I do not have an scanner, but will try to do something about it.

Regards!
