with you Art, on several occasions, this quote of your's exemplifies why you are the hatter of choice for me. I followed the pictoral presentation with amazment.
On one hand I learned more about the actual millner process (<--correct term?)
On the other I was amazed at the final outcome! The owner of said hat will not only be pleased but grateful for the care and attention. Additionally, it is quite likely that the hats current owner, like the previous owner, will find this newly restored beauty his favorite as well. You Sir, have the intuition and vision of an alchemist. That is how you have come to make "out there" statements as they apply to your craft!
PS I'll be happy to come out there and prepare you and Janene a Tex-Mex dinner that you'll never forget!

Very, very interesting and informative thread. The hat looks great, you really did a fine, fine job. I hope we see more threads like this. Can somebody talk to Aero or another maker and get them to make a horsehide jacket for us?

Or Art, could you make a horsehide jacket for us? (I'm kidding, but you look like you probably could.)

Very interesting, and one of the best "how it's done" pieces I've ever seen. REALLY a cool series of posts.

The result is a bit too - er - orange for me. I'd probably be more in the dark brown category for ribbon and trim.

MrCitizen, in answer to your question, this is a $90 restoration with leather, ribbon, brim binding, and C&B, so the hat has to be worth it to you or on teh open market.
BB, I believe this hat is late 40s-early 50s. Adam Hats made really classy AND avant guarde stuff

To all else Thank you. I am really glad you enjoyed it. When I started tearing hats apart I wished I had something this simple to start with. It's also intended to help visualize the process and to some extent justify the expense of renovating your favorite hat. Although I took you through the steps it in now way showed you everything involved with real specificity. I think that would be boring anyway except to nerds like myself.
