My dad gave me one of his G1 flight jackets for my birthday many years ago, and I've since worn the cuffs and waistband to oblivion. Does anyone have any recommendations for where I could send the jacket to have them replaced?

Thanks!

how much d'ya like that jacket???

hi...i've had 'the best in L.A.' leather repair (according to los angeles magazine) do some very simple work on an a-2...he's good, but he didn't want to do it, said he would likely have some variance from the way the original manufacturing looked...however, no one else wants to work on these jackets, so i had him do it the best he could

it wasn't 'bad', but not on the par with the original manufacture because of the difficulty of even doing simple work on this type of leather

gibson and barnes in s.diego won't work on jackets other than their own brand because of the same reason, they don't want the liability of not making it as if originally manufactured on other brand jackets, or costly collector's jackets

the only place where i inquired and got no sense that there was a caveat, just, "sure, we can do it...it won't be cheap" was aero in scotland

from what i've heard on the forum here, eastman has replaced cuffs and ribbing, as well as other repairs, though i've never had an email returned from them when inquiring, whilst aero is lighting quick...so if choosing between top notch companies, i'd choose the one that you can trust to have good communication

howeveR, if you don't mind some threat variation in colour, or a line that's not necessarily as straight as the original sewing lines, i can give you the name of the guy who worked on my other jacket...he's in beverly hills, and everyone in the local area who i asked to do the job referred me to him...and even he knew there were going to be problems...but he doesn't charge too much

if you want it super nice (as i'd think you might, it being from your father) i'd go with aero...probably close to $100 in postage back and forth, and whilst i can't quote a price from aero, i'm guessing they might charge $100 for just the cuffs

hope that informs

Well, you must be the only one. I have had Gary and Allen return my emails in the same day, sometimes within a few hours or less. I have had about 10 jackets repaired at Eastman Leather and every transaction was phenomenally expeditious. They do the best repair bar none. The only disadvantage you will have sending a jacket to them from the states is the postage costs, other than that you will be very pleased with their service.

JJ, you may want to investigate the email address you have for ELC, maybe you have it incorrect or something is wrong with your delivery system. I have never heard of someone not having an email answered from them, this is just absurd. Comments like this that have not been investigated damage reputable sellers. You should be careful when you make accusations regarding a reputable company Like Eastman Leather and make sure you have investigated as to why this has happened. As I said, this is one of the only times I have ever heard this sort of thing about them.

Try San Diego

I have had good luck with the San Diego Leather Jacket factory. I know a few folks in San Diego that take their jackets to them. I have not been in a few years, but they used to be a family owned business.

Just to back up what JJ said, I had the same issue with ELC a few months back. However, I keep hearing that they do great work, so if they respond to your email they might be a good choice. I've heard others say that Aero does repair work, Aero has spectacular customer service and email response BTW.

the EaSTman conSpiracy

regarding eastman, it's quite clear by the stuff on their website they are remarkable with quality...

if they answer emails quickly to my friend from espana, that's great...i think anyone would be lucky to have a good relationship with a company that does such expert work

all i can say is that i sent two emails ready for a purchase, and none were answered...i would have just purchased using the online form, i guess money can't be ignored when it's coming in, but i had a sizing question...hence the sale was lost

but as to the original question, if eastman graces you with responding to an inquiry, i'd assume they might be one of few i'd trust a beloved jacket repair to...

i know i don't have a sPeCiaL relationship with amanda of aero in scotland...from what i hear, she answers everyone verrrrrry quickly

I've always found Gary to be hugely helpful and quick at responding to emails. He has three different emails he can be contacted on and sometimes he's quicker on one or other than the others. Here they are (I've taken the at and dot signs out so as to avoid spam spiders, so put them in where I have left spaces):

enquiries eastmanleather com
gary eastmanleather com
jackets ww2jackets com

As I said, my own personal experience of dealing with Gary and Eastman has been first class. I couldn't have asked for more helpful service.

whew, A fast movin' thread. Posts here, posts there; now you see 'em now you don't.

All about a dispute re: email answering punctuality of a purveyor of leather goods.

Amazing.

Anyway, Beyer160, i've heard good things about the quality of repair work from Eastman and Aero. I fear you may have inadvertently stumbled upon the latest blossoming of a long running fued. Don't let it dishearten you; look past the crap and read the reviews of the work.

All 3 email address have already been posted. Maybe you should have done this prior to posting your comments regarding their customer service.[huh] Food for thought.

yes, as much time as i spend on this forum, i should have spent another 10 hours a day searching these emails down rather than simply trusting the email eastman gives on their website...
