Here's a pic of Art's work. I had Art replace the sweatband in this Stetson Royal Deluxe with a whipped stitch edge and he also replaced the ribbon for me without me asking. You cannot see where he stitched it on.

Here's the entire hat.

Nice Job

What I really like is the whipped stitch around the hat gives it a
1940's western lodge kind of look. Nice!

I really like the very classy symmetrical curve on the top edge of the ribbons to the rear of the knot. Simple elegance. I can't wait to get my "Eddie G."

Cheers!

Gee, and I read somewhere else that Art needs lessons. No, he doesn't. I also can see stitches on that Hattresses hats from that place that I've read about the lessons needed.

Here's another frontal shot. This type of felt stetson used is a bit different than what's on some of their other vintage hats. Its very much like a vintage borsalino felt, very thin and floppy and yet very dense. Art did a great job of giving it life again as the sweatband was shot and the ribbon and bow needed replacing. The stitching Art did is amazing, you can't see any on the bow at all and on the ribbon you have to get a magnifying glass to see them.

Thanks gents...Now Robert, you KNOW that everyone is entitled to their opinions..even if they are wrong

I will drink to that. But, I have had enough real hatters tell me the guy is full of it, so consider the source. ;) I hear he thinks the more stitches visible, the more value added to the hat.:p HJ would be proud of him though. They both get off on superfluous stitches. I just figure the mentioned person can not do the clean looking bows though. In fact, he never heard of them prior to me telling him about how Optimo does their bows. Nowadays, he is a self appointed expert, in all things. We know him as the only private felter hatter in the world. Still have not found out how he became a "Master Hatter" though. I still think he is not convinced the Cavanagh edge was not just a welted edge, with the non existent stitches blurred by time. I think perhaps he trained under John B. Stetson. ;)(all his other claims are rather grandiose too) :cheers1: Fedora

I like Art's bow better than the Prince myself. ;)

Not a gay prince

It's not a Dobbs gay prince but it was very similar. It is a Stetson Royal Deluxe. The original ribbon was also felt with a whipped stitched on the top, I didn't like it and tacked on another black ribbon with a makeshift bow. Art was kind enough to replace my funky one with one that really highlights the hat.

I figured not. I was sort of being facetious. I have two of those myself. One in the brown color like yours and a tan colored one. I just left them as they were with the self ribbon. Is yours a suede finish or a regular finish? My brown one has a suede finish. In fact, the guy I bought it from sold it as suede! :p

Regards to all,

J
