Perry Ellis

This is one of the few modern OTR companies I've seen that does a belted back fairly well.

I was at Younkers today (what a madhouse) and saw several different styles of Perry Ellis jackets. Most were the military-inspired four pocket dress jackets that weren't too bad.

Then they had a tweedy belted back number with three pockets, all with flaps. The material was a bit thin but being fully lined it was a pretty hefty jacket. The belt was pretty close to where it should be, maybe 1/8" too low but not bad at all. Not only that, but the silhouette was very good. I'm a 38R and a 40R jacket gave me a nice pinched waist. The jacket skirt was short-style just like vintage jackets and the sleeves were perfect length. Lapels were a little on the thin side but not bad. It was on sale for $82 but I couldn't justify spending that much on a jacket. When the price drops more after the holidays I will definitely snatch one up.

I can't find the exact same jacket on the Perry Ellis website but I did find this SB peaked lapel jacket with a belted back.

As you can see, the button stance is high, the skirt is vintage-style short, the belted back is up around the waist and the lapels are big.

I had that Perry Ellis jacket...here are some better pics:

I actually sold it to our own Douglas. The cut and fit are VERY vintage, so the size 44 only measures 46" and was too snug for me. Beautiful jacket.

Andre Benjamin (aka OutKast) started a clothing line called Benjamin Bixby and he has a very nice belted-back jacket. It is double vented and has working button cuffs. Armholes are nice. Warning - it ain't cheap.

Here he is in the jacket (unable to locate back view):

I bought this jacket and I found the fit to be absolutely terrible. I wasn't terribly impressed, personally, even on sale.
Sorry to read that. Hopefully you paid the sale price and not full retail. ;)

Well, went back and purchased the jacket I described in the first post. It was about $50 and I also had a $20 gift certificate (originally around $150). :D

While I'm a size 38R the smallest left was a 40R but it's a fine fit, though 38 would have been perfect.
A couple details. It has a working ticket pocket as well as working cuff buttonholes, two on each sleeve. It also has a patch on the right shoulder, giving it a travel/hiking jacket feel. It is fully lined with three internal pockets and sweat guards on the armpits. Neat little details.

I did buy that Perry Ellis Jacket from Flat-Top. I am quite pleased with it. I needed to shorten the sleeves but other than that it fits very well and looks good to my eye. It is a nice medium weight and I like the button placement. It looks much better in person than the advertisement photo.

This pic doesn't show the entire jacket but will give an idea as to the color

Wear it in good health my friend!
I just got yet another Perry Ellis jacket, this time from their outlet. It's purple wool with white flecks, belt back and peak lapels. It has that same snug fit--they call it "City Fit", so even though I am a 44, I got a 46. It's was $80.

Douglas and Flat-top, the description and partial photo of that jacket make my mouth water. Now I must find one of their peaked lapel, belted back jackets.

Would you by any chance have moar pics of these jackets? Douglas' pic is just a teaser (a fine one, at that). ;)
