Hey hey, this is my first post here as well!

Let me see, I found this site looking at other sites like COW and Indylounge. I am a mere 20 years old, but what I lack in age I make up for in experiences.

I do not own many fedoras (at the moment), but I have an Akubra Fed IV Deluxe, and have on order an Adventurebilt Deluxe from Marc, and hope to order a Grey Raiders fedora from the Penman Hat Co. (Once funds are acquired!).

So yeah, that's me! :eusa_clap

I'm new around here, too. Well, I lurked for kind of a long time before joining, so I know my way around, but nobody here knows me yet.

I've been interested in hats since I was a kid. I finally got my first fairly good hat (i.e. not a baseball cap) in eighth grade, a quasi-Indiana Jones hat, but with a low, tapered crown and made of leather rather than felt. I still wear it. The next year I bought a black wool fedora (I didn't know any better and I didn't have much money and I was in 9th grade), which I also still wear, though never in the rain, and I think I'd rather it had a wider brim. I have a newsboy cap and a crushable brown fedora, and a jester hat and a medieval hood and a bowler and I don't even know what all. I am feeling the need to expand my fedora horizons with maybe an Akubra or Stetson (preferably vintage) or something similar.

I'm getting more interested in other elements of golden era style as well, specifically vests, high waisted trousers and heavier wool for suits/suit parts. I like the way suits used to fit movie stars like Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart and James Stewart, and I like the idea of suits that are actually comfortable to wear. I've sewn quite a few garments for myself, mostly inspired by past fashions, mostly from more than a century ago. Most of these also a little too odd to wear and be taken seriously at the same time.

I like hats and I like fashions so old they're cool again, and I think that this is a place I can indulge myself a little.

Great Idea

Clearly this will promote more posts by newer people.

The Fedora Lounge is a welcoming crowd and always eager to help each other.

I am by no means a "retro" person. I, however, appreciate the art and simple beauty a Fedora holds.

This forum is a nice place to hang out and share thoughts and ideas.

Hello Dolls!

I am in my late twenties, wife, and mother of two. We are currently living in Montana. I have lived in three out of the four corners of the US (Coronado, CA., Kennebunkport, ME., and "Atlanta and north" Georgia).

My love of vintage includes travel accoutrements. I adore everything from wardrobe trunks from the turn of the century, to hat boxes, to 1950's luggage sets. My goal is to have our home completely furnished with items from the 19th century to the 1950's. My pride and joy as far as that goes is my original 1950's and formica kitchen table, with two leaves and six chairs!

I am building my vintage wardrobe. Thus far I have been concentrating on practical pieces from the 50's (housedresses), because I honestly don't go out that much. However, once I become more confident in my sewing abilities I plan on my entire wardrobe (undergarments et al) consisting of items from the 30's-50's. I love fashion from the 20's too, but my body type isn't in the least the ideal for that era (read:straight and thin) and I'm not about to start wrapping myself in Turkish towels. lol I am trying really hard at the whole self acceptance thing. There are other ladies out there who look amazing in a vintage size 16, so I can too right? I think I'd rather be full and happy than skinny and angry anyway.

I found this forum when I searched for "vintage haircuts" on google or something like that.

I'm 19, full time student, and I've always loved vintage fashion (except fur...fur is the tackiest and cruelest thing to wear in my opinion). I gained about 10 lbs sense breaking up with my ex, and started wearing more vintage-esq fashion because I think it hides my flaws better and I no longer fit into my ultra-tight skinny size 0 jeans.

Aside from vintage life, I'm a vegetarian and environmentalist. Two things which are very important to me. I love punk music just as much as I love a Bach Cello suite. But I have yet to decide if I prefer Dino or Frank (so hard to choose!). lol

**I'm not trying to make a political statement, this isn't the place for that, I know. It's just part of who I am and have a hard time describing myself w/o it. I know people disagree, and I respect that.

Another newby here. Hello all! I've been lurking for several months trying to read through old posts before I make an ass of myself. I'm nearing page 60. I started out reading COW and moved on simply because there is more variety here.
I see a common thread among hat people that I also share. Thankfully not everyone here has it, but there does seem to be a compulsion that drives members that I've only seen matched on wristwatch forums that I try not to frequent much anymore. (Hats are cheaper)
I woke up one morning this fall and it was raining. I should get a hat I thought to myself. While out and about I visited a book store only to find they are selling the Indiana Jones hat with the box set of the movies. After buying it I thought what a pitifull thing and never really wore it. But I looked a bit online and ended up with a couple of Baileys wool fedoras an Akubra Fed IV, a Stylemaster and now several vintage lids. All in the span of a couple of months. Oh yeah, Gary White is making me a hat too.
Unfortunately because you can't just go to the store and see hats these days I've got to order via the internet and kind of hope for the best until I really find my own style. In the meantime I hope I don't end up with a mountain of hats. People think I'm crazy enough already.

I am a definite Newbie to all parts of the Fedora Lounge. I discover it about a week ago when browsing through VLJ forum where I found this forum mentioned. I'm new at VLJ too as I recently started looking too connect up with Leather jacket conversations.

Now how does this relate too hats? I guess I have collected hats all my life and always had a high opinon of the classic Fedora. While in college in Atlanta I had the privelidge of working at "Zachry's" a well known haberdasher located in downtown Atlanta as well as Buckhead in the late 1960's. I mention this because they carried a number of brands Knox and Stetson being the two I remember. The best part though was learning to block and set the hats in the various styles. It has been many years since working in clothing but honestly this site has brought back some very pleasant memories.
