I just finished reading that article (I live in Fort Collins, 60 miles north of Denver) and checked in here to see if it had been noted. I thought it was well written, and I suspect that membership here is about to balloon!

I choose to look at this as an overall plus for us. It might mean less expensive, better quality hats from the major manufacturers as they move to supply the masses. No insult meant to Art, Steve and the rest of the custom hatters out there, but it would be nice to be able to walk into a store and buy a relatively inexpensive "knock around" fedora that harkened back to the 1930s (in materials and construction) without having to drop three hundred (and up!) bucks! I'd like to be able to save the custom lids for the dressy occasions!
Also, it doesn't matter to me if hats become the current "in" thing. I wore them before, and I'll wear them after. It was never about just wanting to look different, hats have always been an evolving personal style choice. It's me. Once the fad dies down there I'll be, still wearing a (hopefully) stylish lid.

Well, think of this in the long run.
If interest in well-made hats continues through the years, the companies are going to have to make better quality hats to please the masses. Of course, initially the prices are going to be high. But in the long-run, the prices will eventually level out and drop, and hats will be cheap like when they were everywhere in the Golden Era.

It is great to see an article like that come out in a progressive newspaper like the Denver Post (which is much better then the Rocky Mountain News). But I don't know how many people take their fashion tips from the Post and I am not sure I would worry until something shows up in the NY Times style section or - God forbid - a story on Page Six about some celebrity wearing a lid!
Pilgrim - I grew up south of and west of you, and actually met my wife and did three of my four degrees at CSU! Man, do I miss that town! What I would do to be throwing back a Fat Tire down in Old Town right now or have a cinnamon roll from Vernon’s! Nothing like eating with a few stuffed animals around.

Just received the latest Hat Life newletter in the e-mail this morning, and they had reprinted the Denver Post article, complete with active link to the Fedora Lounge.

This is the hat,a 1940s Borsalino, and one of the two suits I took with me. 
I'm pretty sure I was the only one dressed like this in Marquand and Marble Hill, though another gentleman showed up at dinner in Fredericktown wearing a tie and blazer. Mark, you'll be the trendsetter in hats, that's for sure!:cool2:
