I think it is lost in Development Hell

Peter Jackson was slated to direct the Dam Busters remake back in 2006. That is eons in Hollywood time. When you don't hear or see anything about a project, it has just sort of drifted into limbo and is no longer on anyone's production schedule.

Peter Jackson has since become involved with the greenlighted go projects "The Lovely Bones" and "Tintin".

To get an idea of how this works, look at what's on the current list of top grossing movies. See any pure WW2 action fests? When you start seeing a few at the top of the list, look for Tinseltown to start re-making the genre.

When Hollywood types say "I love those old movies , but we don't make 'em like that anymore...", they mean "I couldn't green light a movie like that and keep my job."

It may be a good thing, if it's never made.
We would all sit back and nag about the computerized aeroplanes, a dog with the wrong name and other minor details such as half of the crews suddenly were american. And Guy Gibson was played by Tom Cruise...let's all enjoy the good ol' b/w version.;)

I've just talked to a mate of mine who's working on it, and it's on hold, as there's script revisions.

I have mentioned that if they need any help on Equipment/gear, I happen to know a bunch of very knowledgeable collectors. :D

Peter (Jackson) is obsessed with WW1 and 2 gear..so everything will be correct... The photos my friend sent all looked great. (and this was all just research gear for the costume dept.)

Don't think they did Ruf, contemporary photos suggest otherwise - at least for some of the crews. I'd find it remarkable if the movie doesn't have flying sequences other than those depicting the raid itself though. I thought ELC were making the Irvins for it? I think Spitfire is right and we will be seeing an Irvin or two. BTW, there is nothing intentionally ironic in this post.

Hey, the best part of King Kong was the biplane attack!

I do recall someone selling an irvin jacket on ebay a long time ago.It was worn just prior to the dambuster raid,by a recconnaisance officer photographing the dams.I do not know if the same officer was in the spitfire that took the later photographs, after the dams were destroyed, and wore an irvin then.,but, according to the seller, the irvin was the only connection any irvin jacket had to the raids, via the recconnaisance photographers only.
Here is a link to one of the photographs before the raid.

Yes, thanks Spitfire. Some of the History Channel documentaries are well worth watching. I think the Historical Advisor Simon Dunster did a good job here, and there is some priceless original footage. The clips from the original film remind me of what a good job was done in the early 50s - I remember my father taking me to see it at my local 'picture house' when it first came out.
