Scanner Died

Ok, my scanner died and I need to get a new one. Since I have not bought a new one and don't keep up on this stuff, I thought I would ask the experts on here since there seem to be a few that qualify. ;)
I want a flatbed scanner that will scan at least 8 1/2 by 11 pages and will work well with my character recognition software. Yes, I publish a newsletter and I don't want to have to retype everything time after time. ;)
I need it soon as well.
Recommendations?

Thanks in advance,

J

I recently purchased an Epson 4180 and love it! I bought it for scanning photos, slides and negatives - both B&W and color - and it performs admirably. I haven't scanned too many documents, but what I have are very good. If it would do what you need, I don't know, but I am sold on Epson. Give their scanners a look.

if you are wanting to use a specific version of a specific OC recognition software....start there...the website of the software should list supported scanners.

This assumes you wouldn't want to upgrade to a newer version of things.

Otherwise again, look at the software you want to use with it, and get the list of supported scanners for the latest version of the software, since if you are set on that software, its little use ending up with an unsupported scanner, no matter how nice it is.

Miss Neecerie...where were you when I was trying to figure out what a graphics card was??? (thank goodness I finally got one!)

I've got an Epson Stylus CX4600. Scans, prints, does everything but the laundry I think. I love it and the quality's great. I just happened to get it last year, when the printer that was supposed to come with my computer sold out and this was the upgrade.
