Art, who don't you just.....

open a branch office in London! you could travel there every few months to do personal fittings . .. not unlike the hong kong tailors.

decent tax deductions involved, i would think.

just a whimsical thought!!!

I'm wondering if I can order using my size which I know to be exactly the same as size L on cheap hats.

To be honest you also really need to find out your exact head size too, because I've found the 'S,M,L' sizes on hats very changeable. If you're close enough to Shrewsbury or Chester, try and go there to 'The Hat Company' shops. They have a wide range of the Christy's fedora hats in lots of sizes, which means you can try on and find your perfect fit. It was that way I found out I'm between UK 7 and 7 1/8 (USA 7 1/8 and 7 1/4).

If you do go down the conformer from Art route, he helpfully supplies a tape measure too with which you can get your head measurement, about an inch above the eyebrow around the head - 57.5 cm was mine.

I do know my exact size, it's 58-59cm. When I get 58cm (7 1/4) it's too small but 59cm (7 3/8) is too big. So I find that when I get size L it fits just right as it's in between these sizes usually.

These size conversions aren't exact either though I see them everywhere. I always see 7 3/8 as 59 centimeters. I'm a perfect 23" so an American 7 3/8 fits me, but 59 centimenters is actually 23 1/4" using a metric converter so when I buy Akubras they're always a little too big.

Should we name it?

I gave up trying to land a black fedora on ebay at a reasonable price and commissioned one from Art. Dimensional brim 2 3/8ths sides and 2 1/2 ends, underwelt, lite felt, and a touch of alternate color in the bow to ward off religous presumptions.

Buyer's Remorse - to own so many hats, but only one is a VS . . .

Group shot for color comparison; a dark green Resistol ebay'd from SuitedCboy in the middle, and the Navy Borsalino on the right:

In my next life, Art may forgive me for foolishly asking for a dimensional brim AND underwelt; in Art's next life he will forgive himself because he should have simply said 'no.' I am really happy with it; beautiful work.

So it started simple. I told Art I wanted a replica of the Stetson Whippet (since they're so darn hard to find for a good price!!) in dark brown.

It arrived on Friday. I think he hit this one right out of the park. It is stunning in person, I know the photos don't do it justice. The felt is very pliable soft, I love it.

Here's a pic of the liner, black. I love the brown leather sweatband with the dark brown felt.

So give me your opinions, is the hat too dressy for leather, or does it look okay?

Here it is with my Aero A2

Whatever your opinions, I love this hat. Thank you Art for creating such a masterpiece

Barrow, in my exitement to post my own pics, I rudely ignored yours. My apologies, sir. Your new hat is excellent as well. I really like it.

I have considered a black hat many times. The first custom hat I saw that got me started in this crazy obsession was a black hat. A few years ago a buddy of mine shows up to work with a nice black fedora. I loved hats back then, but didn't know where to get them, so he told me. He introduced me to JW Hats, and the rest is history. However, I went with the dark (steel) gray instead of black, for me it's just a little more versatile. Plus my wife loves it.

Great new lid from Art -- I like that underwelt and the subtle color in the ribbon. I'm also lovin' that green Resistol! And, last but not least, I really like the way the teardrop crease wound up on your Blue Borso -- nice job.

Cheers,
JtL
