Ok, as much as I HATE to do this, I'm going to have to sell the Adam Premier Executive that I won from Johnnyphi recently. Here's one of John's pics:

And here's the thread from the original auction:

http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=38954

The hat is beautiful: a gray very like the Akubra Moonstone (slightly darker than shown in John's photos) and the felt is in perfect condition. In certain light, the gray has a touch of beige or tan to it, making it a very interesting color. And the ribbon is gorgeous: the gray/tan alternating with a light purple/lavender color. Great snap brim. Beautifully made.

John and others recommended taking out the plastic liner under the leather sweatband, but I haven't done that. It doesn't seem to interfere with the sweatband, as it's a very thin plastic, I don't imagine taking it out will affect the fit of the hat. And it's a great feature if you plan on wearing it in warm weather, keeping the sweat on the band and not on the felt.

Why am I selling? While the tag says 7 3/8, the fit is really a size 7 or 7 1/8. Measuring the circumference of the sweatband, it is just under 22 1/2". It doesn't fit on my head without giving me a headache. I've tried wearing it around the house and stretching it that way, but that hasn't worked. And I don't want to send the hat out for a new sweatband and resizing. Someone with a smaller head size should find this a fantastic hat to wear.

However, in the interest of full disclosure, I also have to report that in the wearing it around the house during the past week, trying to gently fit it to my head, the vertical stitching on the back of the sweatband has ripped slightly. I didn't apply much pressure at all, pulling the brim from front and back and working it down onto my skull, but I suspect because the leather is old it has become a bit more fragile than it originally was. But this was a clear indicator to me that the lid isn't going to fit a 7 3/8 head, despite the tag.

I paid $165.00 in auction for the hat. :( Given the actual size, which is less in demand than a 7 3/8, and given that the sweatband has ripped a bit, I don't expect to recoup that amount. But I'd love to see someone enjoy this beautiful vintage hat. I'll suggest $125, but will accept offers.

Do you think it would fit a 7 1/4?
Could you post/mail a pic of the sweatband stitching?
Billy, I originally thought it might be 7 1/4, but I went lower given my attempted measurement with a cloth tape. It might fit a 7 1/4; I'm just under a 7 3/8, and I could get it to fit properly on my head, but it was definitely tight. A centimeter or so less head might make a difference.

I'll take a photo of the stitching and upload it next.

What a shame for us melon-heads! I watched the original auction for this beautiful hat with rapt attention, since I thought it was my size - and quietly applauded when you won it. Sorry to see it back on the block - although you really can't/shouldn't force yourself into such a nice hat that's too small without a professional re-size. Luckily, there are many deserving Loungers who can wear it. What a beauty!

Photos of sweatband

Here are three photos--as you can see, I've tried to actually pull slightly to show the tearing that's happened in my attempts to fit it to my head.

These are the closest shots I was able to get without the photo going out of focus. The tear is most pronounced at the bottom, but it is separating about halfway up the stitching.

I should add that the top of the vertical stitching is secure, as is the stitching at the base of the sweatband and around the brim. It's not going anywhere, but it clearly needs a smaller head to host it.

Thanks, jec--yeah, I'm still unhappy about having to give this one up, but someone with a smaller noggin will get enjoyment from it. And to buck myself up, I've just sent in payment for a Stylemaster in Moonstone...it's in and ready for me, according to Hats Direct, so something to look forward to!
