Silly me, I haven't read this thread since I'm not red-headed... I must have momentarily forgotten my faiblesse for red hot red-heads! Grrrr...:D

I flush/gets red easily also, which is my main concern, I don't want to be all red all over .. any recommendations/suggestions?

I wouldn't worry too much about this. I'm a natural redhead, and I have this problem as well.

Can a person with fairly dang pink skin look good with orange-y hair?

I'd like a fairly plausible-shade of red, and I'm afraid of the deep purple-y ones with my pink skin.

Should I look for a copper or a strawberry? I dunno. I have off-the-charts fair skin when it comes to drugstore foundation, but not ivory, pink. And green eyes. I have naturally indecisive hair sitting squarely between light brown and mildly auburn and dark blond. It lightens to orange with Sun-In.

Story of my life, doll! The least bit of physical exertion, emotional change, or overcrowding in a room and I'm red as a tomato. Something I've noticed in the last year and a half as a red-head is that the color in my hair balances the color in my face and chest and makes it look less like a sunburn and more like a youthful flush!

I've always wanted red hair, but I hear up-keep is a pain in the hiney! I have never died my hair, but my desire for red hair is urging me to die my hair. Is the up-keep worth it? If so, what do you ladies do to keep hair looking good?

Oh I miss my red hair :(
At the moment, I'm blonde (which I like!) bit I really miss being a redhead. I'm naturally quite dark brown, so I know that even if I dye over the blonde, the roots won't be the same red as the body.

Is there a solution to this which doesn't mean re-lightening my roots every time, or am I just going to have to wait this out? x

Darhling-
I used this site to "test" the different reds out with my coloring. It's free and easy to use though decidedly not vintage. I could get close to what shades looked better on me. I had my mother convinced I went platinum blond with an altered photo last year on April Fools.

Hmmm - Well I did see that there were quite a few other free sites out there. Maybe one will work that will let you try on different colors.

I did mine about 6 months ago and it was free then - not sure now.

Wohoo, this is great! I just signed up and played around with it - it's working and it's still free.

Especially the makeup-part of the application looks really well. Didn't expect an online makeover application to work so well. The hair looks wobbly sometimes, but overall it works really well, and is definitely useful for seeing which colors suit you.

Help Me Decide!

Okay, ladies, I need help. I don't have a best girlfriend around anymore to give me an honest opinion, so I'm ready to here it from perfect (and I do mean perfect!) strangers -

I have dyed dark brown hair (I refuse to go gray). Since October of last year I've had big crazy color nuclear red chunks in it and I like it very much. But I am, as usually happens after a few months, bored silly with my hair. I will be cutting it officially into a middy on Sunday and my 6 week old roots are screaming for a touch up. My hairdresser wants me to go all red - she thinks it'll look terrific. I'm gonna be 49 on May 23rd, what the heck do I think I'm doing, but then I think, well, I am what i am and I do love crazy color hair and time isn't getting longer and life is definitely getting shorter so why not....

So my options are:

1 - leave it as is (brown with nuclear red chunks)
2 - dye the top hair nuclear red with dark brown underneath
3 - color the whole thing red (perhaps the blood red slightly darker shade?)

Nuclear red is a bright true red. Blood Red is a darker blue red .

What say you, vintage vixens?

49 who looks 35

I like the #2 option. But I am wearing mine 2 tone right now and I love it. I really like the red you have in it now. Besides then you won't have to strip the whole thing at once if you decide to take it all the way a little later.

I'm all for adventurous haircolor.

#2 I think, that is a great red. If you decide to go for #3 I think the blood might be better since you won't have any color breaks. JMHO

It looks terrific as is, but I understand if you get bored of it, I'm like that too!

I have a difficult time visualizing option 2, what would it look like?

The nuclear red is very red and might be a little too much if your all your hair was just that color. So I'm going for option 3 blood red, with the reservation that I'm not quite sure what option 2 means.

I am stuck between these two colors (but I don't want to get too orange..), which one would you think look best? Maybe a third shade even? I also want to get it cut again, maybe a few inches longer than the first model..

Oh, I also have super light blue eyes, I guess that is important too when choosing a color.

Me (I just don't have bangs anymore..)
