How do you store your hats?

The top row is hat hooks. All the others are long finishing nails (Those are the ones without big heads.), inserted at an angle into pre-drilled holes.

But in the final analysis, J.T. and the wife too take the cake! Good job there on the Hat Cave. Our son wants a saxophone like Fletch's to store a vintage hat on. To which DH Dad said, "Uh... no."

Our hallway is too narrow. A fancy hat rack would probably just get knocked over - a lot. But I've got enough vintage hats now and a few modern ones too, that I need to get creative with hat storage. I just got a reproduction ladies' hat mannequin from DecoEyes on evilBay sitting on my dresser to display the current favorite. Eventually as budget allows I'd like to maybe get a total of four of these; a blonde, a redhead, lt brunette and a dk. brown/black haired one. Two can go on my dresser and two on our daughter's dresser. They do a have two mens' hat mannequins that they reproduce, the one I like best is the clean shaven 20's guy.

Right now DH Chuck has his one (yeah, just one so far- he's just gotten started on the whole vintage thing) vintage fedora sitting in a square hat box on top of his dresser, his WWII Army Air Corp Captain's hat in plastic or sitting out also on the dresser, his old (not vintage) Panama is in a very tired round hat box in the closet. As he gets more hats, we'll have to address serious hat storage.

I recently snagged an amazing vintage steamer trunk that we want to have upright and slightly open on display in a corner of our living room. We'll have a vintage hat or two on display of course with it, with a rotation of vintage clothes showing in/on it. At first we were considering to coffee table the trunk, as the previous owner had, but decided it might be more cool to make a display set up with vintage clothes and hats shown. I just gotta clear my soon-to-put-up-on-eBay pile out of that corner! When its all arranged, will snap a pic and post it for all to see. Will have to share the story of "the trunk" on a separate post soon...

Hat Storage

On a hat tree but always with the brims up when not wearing them. Those with snap of course. Sometimes of the favorites are hung around various spots to be admired

Bought this hat rack on EBay for barely $20 shipped. Works great, and now I am thinking of another one stacked above or below... (The wall looks so inadequate with just the 5 hats!

Thank you both! I am very pleased with this approach to storing my hats. It doesn't hold everything, but enough to limit the pile of boxes in the corner.

Great rack that just went on ebay

I was away went this finished on the bay. So I didn't even get a bid in. But I thought this would be an excellent hat rack.

Always bothered the tar out of me that they set them up that way. This wall deal works because someone stopped to think, "Hmmmm, let's make it with five hat perches and put them far enough apart so a person could actually use them." Brilliant!

Great "Hall of Hats" photo! I was happy with 3 fedoras until I found this forum - collections like yours are making me realize that I "NEED" more - you guys are enablers.

Problem I'm having with storage is trying to guesstimate where my 'collection' will finally level off. Up 'til now I've been able to stack the cheapies in the closet, and my rotation is hanging over the top books in the bookshelf.

Lefty - Sharp eye. That is exactly right. Move one hat and another one wants to get bumped off its hook. But, other than that minor inconvenience, I am pleased with the rack.

Gene - The hooks are spaced well, but I did have to bend the metal a bit to get them all evenly spaced. Luckily the iron used is weak enough to allow you to tweak the shape without breaking the welds...so far.

Admittedly these hat stands are a bit pricey, but they do add a certain ambiance to a room...
