Going down one size from UK 8.5 = 8 or 7.5?

I'm ready to take the plunge on a pair of RW "Iron Ranger" boots but getting the correct size has got my head spinning.

I'm a size UK 8.5 and Red Wing boots tend to run large. Problem is that I can't try the boots on since they are not sold here in Sweden.

Contacting the store I got the advice "Red Wing run big so a size smaller is recommended."

OK. Here comes the stupid question: Going down a size from UK 8.5 does that place me at UK 8 or UK 7.5?

Cheers,

If they say they run a size big, they mean a full size. So, one size down from 8.5 = 7.5

There should be recourse to return for exchange if they're wrong (especially given that you are buying fro the UK where such recourse is - or was, at least from bricks and mortar stores - written into law). I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thank you my dear Baron, that was exactly the clear answer I was looking for. :eusa_clap

Yep, I'm ordering the boots from London since they are quite a bit cheeper for me that way. So I figure that I can afford to exchange them if things would go horribly wrong. Well, now I feel I'm as prepared as I can be. Wish me luck. :)

Thanks a million!

Per the European Distance Selling Directive, the buyer has the right to return the goods for any reason, provided they do so within (from memory) seven days.... This is for any reason, which can be as simple as not liking the look of them. (subject to them being in resaleable condition etc etc...). In any ase, most places I find usually offer better than the legal minimum standard.

Just to muddy the waters, I'm a UK 10 wide/10.5 medium (it's a long story) and tried a size 11 Iron Ranger, but they were too narrow for me.

I'm a UK size 9 and when I got my red wings (gentlemen traveller) I was a size 9, no difference and they fit well. I also have a pair of redwing bike boots and they too are size 9.

Probably doesnt help much!!!

Hehehe! Thanks a lot guys!

I was aware that some people consider the Iron Ranger model as somewhat narrow but so are my feet. Worse is if the Redwing boots varies in size so much that some of them are one size too big and others are true to size. Yikes.

Well, I've taken the plunge anyway. Fingers crossed. I'll post a follow up when they arrive.

Cheers,

My Iron Ranger boots arrived today from London. Size 7.5 (UK) was a perfect fit. The reccomendation to go down one full size turned out great. :) Now I have a couple of weeks of indoors wearing to break these puppies in (we still have snow and ice up here and the soles on these boots are as smooth as a babies butt).

Nicest boots I ever had and I bought mine from: http://www.thethreethreads.com/shop/home.html - Excellent service.
