I don't embarras s easily but This is embarrasing beyond belief!

But here it goes....

Last week to help clear up a bit of acne I was going through I wiped my face with preparation H wipe, figuring out that since it had witch hazel it might help... well it worked okay. No real noticeable difference except that for a week now I've been walking around with a slightly rosy chin.... The chin icidentally is where I paid most attention to... And even after a shower and at least 2 face washings... (With ponds) it's still there!

How do I get rid of it What happened? My makeup (NARS Deauville) covers it okay...but still I don't like having a strawberry jawline!

I think time will be the best healer in this instance. I would avoid putting anything medicinal onto it in case it irritated the skin. I would however keep the area moisturised with a cream that isn't too perfumed if possible. You may have some peeling after a few days as well. I hope it clears up for you soon!

It sounds like a bit of product overload.

And once the H wears off, your chin will look redder because the blood has gone back into that area.

Thanks for the help ladies.... I asked a girl at a Lush (Cosmetics) counter... and she said it might've been an allergic reaction to the witch hazel.

So... Who knows...[huh]

Whaddya think?

Do nothing to it for a week! And let it heal. Just water and no makeup for a week is the safest bet.

Then, I would suggest doing a patch test of each of the items concerned to identify which one it was that gave you the reaction.

I find it hard to believe that the H would do it as it is an anti-inflammation drug, so it may have been a combination of different ingredients. But you may just have an allergy!

With hazel itself is an astringent so that may have been the culprit.

I'd suspect an allergic reaction (not necessarily to the witch hazel). Witch Hazel is a vasoconstrictor, so there's no reason for those small vessels to be standing up and waving at you. You might want to try some Benadryl and see if it changes.

If you can get your hands on an aloe vera plant cut it open and get the aloe out and apply it on your chin before you go to bed. It should calm the redness down, if you can chill it before hand it will be better. The ingredient that is probably making you flare up is phenylephrine which is also used in decongestants and to dialate pupils so if it can do that is will probably take a good while to have the irritation stop on your skin.

I think witch hazel is the culprit behind the redness(I love the smell of that stuff). The over-the-counter stuff has alcohol in it. I can't use anything with alcohol, on my face. It will irritate it, like no tomorrow.

Prep H is supposed to have the opposite affect. You can also try Visine/Clear eyes on the red area to help reduce redness.
