Stetson No. 1 Quality Western

The hat appears new and unused, but very dusty with a stripe where it must have been partially covered. The production tag has only block no. and size no names or places or decorative border. Satin-like protective fabric band underneath leather sweatband with stitched seam. The felt is soft and suede-like with 3-1/2" brim.

This hat struck me as strange. It looks like someone spent a lot of time weaving the crown, but ran too close to the deadline on the brim - though I can't see the brim looking as fancy as the crown. Throw in the obvious stitches in the ribbon and I just don't know what to make of it - but I keep coming back to look at it.

I have two hats from the 1930's(Borsalino and Dobbs)that have the same external stitching(basting-like) on the ribbons. The different sizes of weaving are used quite creatively with a crown spiral and the brim with a broad spiral pattern with ridges. A good value for $2.98 pice.

Oh yeah, everything about rlk's straw is intentional. And cool. I also have an old Borsalino with similar lengths of exposed stitch work. Must've been in vogue for some reason, like the fringy back edges on some old ribbon bows.

My First Adam! (Executive, no less.)

Traded a couple of Sinatra lids to Mr. Frijoli for this lovely beast, which he in turn won at a Johnnyphi auction. I just finished rebashing it to look a little less factory-blocked. Currently my fave lid. Anyone care to put a year on it? (My uneducated guess: 1935-1941. Price tag was $7.95, which for an Executive seems inexpensive, hence early.)

(Color's pretty accurate -- chocolate brown, felt and trim.)

I picked this Stetson 25 mode edge up on the bay a few weeks ago. It was listed as a 7 1/4, but when I received it it was way too small and in pretty sad and dirty condition.

I shipped it off to Optimo for a complete refurb and resize and got this back.

It's the stingiest brim I have for sure. It fits really nice now and looks a ton better than it did when I got it. I like the way this one feels now.

I'd say it's likely early to mid-50's. (Price on an Adam Executive was $7.50 through at least the late 40's).

I'm surprised that you say that.

I really almost threw this hat in the trash, but I hated to. So I sent it off. Kim tried it on and it fit her pretty well, so I was going to have it cleaned for her to wear. Of course, Optimo recommended a full refurb, and I really thought the hat needed it. With that in mind I asked them to resize it for me because I knew Kim wouldn't wear it much. I've had it on since I got home this afternoon, and it feels good actually. I wasn't sure at all about a stingy, but if it's good for Bolt, it's good for me.

Bob I would call that brim frugal maybe very frugal but stingy no. Stingy to me wouldn't fit a marble between the brim snapped up and the crown. I'm just the opposite with my brims. I thought I couldn't wear anything bigger than 2 1/2" until I got my Johnny's OR clone, Camp Draft then Stetson OR but ya know the varieties just sort of grow on a body. Plus the smaller brim makes it easier to get in and out of the car.
