Well, what can I say? Just finding that pertinent information has made me feel like I really am a detective... so then I HAVE to have the hat! I don't even need to see any pictures!

If only ALL sellers would take such literary initiative!

(I've been waiting a long time for the right moment to gripe about that one)

Here's where sellers either grab someone or not. I find myself time after time reading detective novels...they are great!. However when I read the description of a used piece of whatever the last thing I want is some romantic BS clouding the facts. That seller has a nice setup but I now skip everything said except the facts. That seller also often has out of focus pictures as well. The big difference in the "romantic seller" and the seller of the Borsalino is one is a pro and it shows and the other is a regular guy with high expectations.

But if you lose me, you also lose dozens like me.

I like good stories too. But I prefer to read them at a time of my choosing. All I'm suggesting is size and condition be exceptionally clear, well detailed, and up front, not hidden somewhere in the story line.

Moreover, when it's obvious the pertinent details are being buried, the ad begins to ring of bait-and-switch gamesmanship to bidders who waste several minutes discovering the hat is an unwearable Size 6 1/2. If such sellers think these methods are successful, they are badly mistaken in my case.

I'm with Bob S. on this one. A good hat will all but sell itself. I avoid a seller who sends all his time blowin' on the fur and never getin' to the hide. I look at far to many hats in a days time, if I want to read a novel I'll go down to the library.

I watched that Dobbs, but it went higher than I can afford right now. It's a pre-1928 hat. I'm not convinced it's a man's hat, but it sure is interesting, and very different. Looks like they use Top Hat construction methods and materials on it.

Maybe you can provide some answers once you have it in person, then. It sure doesn't quite fit any style of men's hat from that time that I've run across, unless it has some unique purpose that we don't know.

Man FRUSTRATION I've been in a few auctions now and I can't come out ahead without bidding up to like 50 bucks. I don't really know what things are worth, but apparently I have good tastes because people are willing to outbid me something awful.

Missed out on a Dobbs that was unbashed and looked very very clean in 7 1/8 LO. Thought I would get this one and really get a chance to mess with a hat and see what it was all about.

Sorry for whining I feel better now though.
