A2 maker info

Hey all,
I have a question, has anyone seen the A-2 jackets made under the name Flight Apparel Industries? I am just curious the quality and you alls opinion of them. Thanks.

I've watched several Flight Apparel jacket on Ebay the last month, there are goatskin and cowhide version, both have great looking collar even though the jacket doesn't copy any particular A-2 pattern. Thick and dark knits, reddish chocolate brown hides. Always Scovill zipper. I believe one of our member posted his FA jacket , great looking jacket i must say.

IIRC, these were made only briefly in the 1980s and early '90s, until the company founder died in the crash of his own plane.

the owner of the company died in a plane crash of his own plane (only him aboard) and another plane in 1983 over Hammonton NJ, ending the company and, obviously, any more production of the jackets

i have both an a-2 and a g-1. the a-2 has slightly thin leather and a collar that is unfortunately the equivalent of a 70s disco collar, like reaLLy big...

after getting this, which i did not care for, i was trepidicious about getting the g-1 on ebay...concerns were unfounded as the g-1 was on par with any g-1, old school or new production, i have seen or worn...

all their stuff was old school military spec, however the a-2 had the overly wide collar and thinner leather...they seemed to have been one of the more noteworthy suppliers of contract milspec jackets of the period

on a personal note, i called up the company on google and could only find the faa accident report...was chilling, reading about the death of the man whose company it was, and knowing that it ended the company...sadly personalizing one of the miljack companies that we mostly think of as just companies
