This year also brings some new introductions, graphics and packaging innovations from PepsiCo, for which the company has high expectations. In CSD flavors, PBV will add Mountain Dew Voltage, which was the winning flavor in the brand’s Dewmocracy campaign. In the middle of April, PBV also will begin distributing Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback, which features those brands formulated with sugar. For the flagship PepsiCo brands, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew and Sierra Mist, PBV also is beginning to distribute the brands featuring their new redesigned graphics and packaging, which is part of a holistic campaign aimed at drawing in younger consumers. PepsiCo also is launching a new advertising campaign with the release.

Coke in the Whitehouse

Change indeed. Pepsi has revamped their logo to ride the coat tails of the success of Shepherd Faiery's iconic image of President Obama.

The return of too much of a natural ingredient in soda is a positive. Parents can go back to telling kids how bad sugar is for them and the kids might understand what they are talking about.

BUT...
TIME reports that the WhiteHouse leans toward Coke:

They have the mexican coke at a costco near me.
I love the syrup and the glass bottles
I also like jones soda cola because they use pure cane sugar, most of their other flavors aren't my forte with the exception of the blue lemonade and cream soda.

Iowa - The Land That Stuff Forgot

Funny you should mention this...

I picked up a little known fact while working in liqour/grocery retail here in Iowa. Iowa is a test market for many foods, including beer, liqour, soda and, apparently, candy. I asked a representative of Anheuser-Busch (creators of American brew Budweiser *yucky*) why Iowa, of all places, was a test market for beer. He told me that marketing believed Midwesterners, Iowans in particular, were not prone to change, but willing to try new things. In their line of reasoning, if a product caught on in Iowa, at least a little bit, it would take off on the coasts.

I believe that is similar reasoning with all other food and beverage companies.

That being said, I can't speak for the rest of the country, but there was a time, maybe about 5 or 6 years ago, when MARS bars were reintroduced into our market. It may have been a test run, or just some marketing gimmick, but I'd purchased a few and went on my merry way. And just as fast they appeared, less than a year later, they disappeared. [huh]
Maybe it was among the test products listed at the Mars Bar wiki.

The US (almond) Mars was discontinued in 2002. The original UK Mars, dating to 1932, is still sold but is more like what we know in the USA as Milky Way (no almond).

Some variants of Mars are still on sale in Canada.

i was looking at a bottle the other day and i actually think all australian coke seems to be made with cane sugar...

probably because we grow an awful lot of the stuff here, it would be cheaper than shipping stuff from elsewhere

I just buy my soda from the Mexican grocer down on Halsted and Route-6. I support a local business AND I get cane sugar soda at a fair price. All it costs me is pushing my tolerance for ranchera music.

PASSOVER COKE

Kosher for Passover! Real sugar! Bottle identified by the yellow cap.

http://www.examiner.com/x-6663-Manhattan-Offbeat-News-Examiner~y2009m3d29-Passover-Coke-now-available-for-consumption

Though Passover does not start until sunset on Wednesday, April 8, "Passover Coke" is currently for sale in local stores.
Only available in two liter bottles, Passover Coke is made with REAL sugar and not the cheaper American alternative, high fructose corn syrup. The bottles are distinguished by their bright yellow caps and have the symbol "OU-P" written on top.
Most of the world uses real sugar in their sodas, and it's much yummier and doesn't last 800 years on a shelf so you don't feel as guilty drinking it.
But once Passover is over, you can usually find similar concoctions in Mexican groceries (or even a Costco or two), because they like to maintain the high quality of their sodas.

We picked up some Pepsi and Dew, and I can't remember if it was throwback or not, it's at our summer house we just opened up. I know I heard my folks discussing it, and it just made me chuckle. Soda Pop made with sugar, what a concept!

I've not tried it but when I see it at the store I'll probably pick one up. I don't drink sodas much but when I do it's usually specialty sodas made with sugar and they all come in glass bottles.

I've had it, and it is good. No weird aftertaste like you get with the hfcs. I like that the pepsi has the really old logo. I hope everybody buys it, as I want to see more sodas made the old fashioned, vintage way.

I do wish it were in glass bottles instead of plastic and cans.

I had a Pepsi with lunch the other day. I picked it up because I noticed the old logo, then I saw "throwback" and wondered what they meant. When I saw that it had sugar instead of h.f.c.s. I knew I had to get it with my sandwhich.
My opinion: it's good.

Sincerely,
The Wolf

I used to drink a lot (about a litre a day) of Diet Coke, which I always preferred to taste over regular Coke, even the UK version (too syrupy). I cut back in a big way when I went without one for two days once and realised that the thumping headaches I was having were withdrawl symptoms (probably the caffeine addiction). A while ago I stopped buying Coca Cola products altogether, on ethical grounds, though it's not always easy to avoid them, so many places having only Coca Cola products as drinks options when you go out to eat.

without getting into a political/philisophical discussion could you tell me what ethical grounds caused you to stop buying coke products?

On another note this may be surprising but the red bull cola is good, don't drink it like a regular cola though or you won't be able to sleep.
