Little children like to stare at me and sometimes I will hear a little girl whisper to her mom, "that lady is pretty". I think it is because I almost always look like a lady

I've experienced this too, especially with little girls. I never get, "that lady is weird," which is interesting as that just seems to be an adult response. I think I am kind of confusing to children, I've heard some ask their parents if I was famous, while others just stare shyly. My favorite was the little girl that told her mom she wanted to have red lips. Not seeing me the mother asked why and the daughter replied that she wanted to be pretty like me. Lipstick seems to be very fascinating to kids, perhaps it is because few women, at least around here, wear it these days. Over all, I find that the comments of children tend to be positive.

I have a similar story to tell! About a year ago in the grocery store I was browsing the canned soup aisle and a little boy pointed at me and loudly asked his father, "Daddy, is that a lady or a doll?" The father replied "I'd say half and half." Awww.

When I was a very young child I remember like it was yesterday seeing a very beautiful woman with coral lips.
Believe it or not she was nursing her child in church. I associated the 2 together and found it very natural.

Aw, Slim, I wasn't fussing with you. And you always look great.

I was just reacting to the bit about it being a shame about the kid being indoctrinated to think they were special occasion clothes - they kind of are, aren't they? Isn't that sort of the point?
But what you said was that you wouldn't dress up a little boy more than once a week, which seemed like a reply to something that no one had said. And no, clearly many folks here think that "traditional" clothing is not just for special occasions.

But thanks for the compliment. ;)

:eek:fftopic: You're a teacher?! Thats Awesome! I wish i had a teacher that dressed vintage!! What do you teach?

I teach 3rd grade in L.A. I wear a vintage tie most every day to school (unless it's really hot), and usually a suit. Today I wore my late 50s-looking, turqoise blue, (almost) sharkskin, SB suit with a narrow, burgandy tie. The kids know to always watch out for my dress shoes.;)
