Love Letters (ladies only!!)

I posted this in the observation bar too, just to get a male perspective, but this one is for ladies only! What would you write to your man?

I don't know if this would be the right place to be putting this question out there, but I'm hoping that a few of you fellow loungers will be able to help me. (feel free to merge or move thread if necessary, I did a search, but found nada)

My man is in the military, and although I'm lucky it's not Afghanistan, he'll be heading out east for all of summer. I've decided that instead of the same boring email and facebook stuff, that letter writing is a more vintage appropriate idea. So, while I'm on a mission for "manly" stationary to buy him, I was curious about what sort of things you would put in a love letter of sorts.

Also, have any of you recieved a love letter? Be it in the mail, or otherwise. It would be interesting to see.

So please...help a girl out!

I think I am the most romantic person I know but alas have never received one. If my honey ever sent me one I would probably keel over. lol

oh, I can think of all kinds of things to put in a love letter but too smokin for FL. lol

I do think everyone should write real letters more of any kind. I am sure the post office would appreciate you sending your guy a letter a day. ;)

It's not a bad idea to avoid saying anything in a letter that you'd be embarrassed about if it fell into strange hands.

or worse yet, if it fell into the hands of family that you'd rather they not know about something deeply personal.

that being said, I am not much of a romantic and sometimes I wish I were. I'd be prone to just say how much I love the person and perhaps why (but not in explicit terms) and how much I miss them. Also, for military, I like to remind them of the ordinary things that happen in life from day-to-day.

that reminds me - I read the book the book "I Love You, Ronnie" by Nancy Reagan, which was a collection of love letters from Ronald Reagan to Nancy, and it was lovely and sweet. For any marriage to last so long, especially in Hollywood and then in the public eye and for someone to love and be loved so much, well, it was a miracle really. Those were great love letters.

I generally keep all the cards and letter i write to him pretty PG. I can't believe that love letter writing seems to have become a lost art...I find it so much easier to write down how i feel about something, then actually say it. I plan on keeping him up to date with things that go on in my day to day life. I'm actually going to carry my camera and send him photos of things i see that made me laugh...too bad i didn't catch the picture of the guy drinking a 4 liter jug of chocolate milk in his car...lol

I got one love letter once, i was 17. it was from my high school boyfriend. it was our 3 month anniversary and it was really sweet...but we broke up a month later when i found out he was cheating on me with my best friend. [huh]

I write boyfriends silly notes, something a bit cute or fun, or weird... but I'm not good at being 'romantic' exactly. I'd like to be sometimes, but it's just not me.

I do think there's something very special about receiving a letter though, something tangible and tactile that you feel as though you can keep... an email is a bit too informal, and not very personable to me. xx

we have code words. does that count?lol

Ok serious now. I have had over 6 family in harms way in recent years and any letters or packages are truly, truly looked for with great expectations.

when i was away on tours this was exactly the sort of stuff which raised spirits the most! Knowing everything was "normal" at home!
A letter from anyone is such a moral boost....i had penpals when on my last tour before that all i got was letters forwarded 3 mths late from my bank!!
i in the military the soldiers always look forward to proper meals and letters from home!!

Foofoogals sugestion of codes is a great one!! makes them even more personal to you both!:eusa_clap

package wise....depending on where he is..if its hot climate..cotton buds, Avon so soft products (has smething in it that moskitios HATE!!) and baby wipes are ALWAYS welcome! as well as the candy and any other comforts of course!!

My DH and I met online, in the mid 90's (married 12yrs this month)When he no longer had an internet connection we wrote letters. I have tons of wonderful letters from him and I adore them all. They capture a romance and lock it up for you to save and have again in the future.

As for the "manly" stationary....don't look for something that he will like, look for something that reflects your personality, since these are a piece of you for him to have with him.

When my husband was in basic training for the AF I wrote him a letter every day. I agree that you don't need 'manly' stationary - I started out writing him on Hello Kitty paper (it was all I had) and when that ran out, I wrote my letters on a purple legal pad.

I think when you're separated like that, for such a long time, it's not the sappy stuff that's romantic, it's just sharing what your day was like. Even the littlest thing, that may seem silly to write, will help him to escape back to where you are. :]

As far as the more 'intimate' parts of a love letter, it doesn't need to be raunchy or anything. I like to tell him all the things people like but overlook and never say to their partner - how when he comes out of the shower there's always this one drop of water coming down between his shoulder blades, etc.!

Whenever I start falling for someone I start writing, A LOT. It's mostly short, stream-of-consciousness prose, and I never send them to the person. I do go all out with birthday cards and the like to my significant others. My ex, however, was not a big writer (AT ALL), so I never got anything back.

Oh well, writing is more for me than anyone else anyway. When I'm in love or lust, there's nothing better than sitting and musing about the person I'm seeing and thinking about all the ways I can put their beauty into words. :)

I'm a big writer. with my ex, i wrote him a card for every month we were together...for 2 years...but NEVER got one back from him. I get "love facebook messages" but i can't really hold it and think that he touched it. That's why were writing to each other. This will be the longest that we've ever been apart. It's gonna be hard...and i am super impatient and the postal service here.

No manly stationary. Something pretty sprayed with your signature perfume.

Oh yes.....my sweet sixteen summer in '89 I used to write love letters to my boyfriend. We lived 100 miles apart (which is like the size of a large continent to a 16 year old!) and then he went away to college 500 miles away in the fall, which eventually ended our relationship.

I wrote him letters on lacey-edged pink stationary and would spray them with Ombre Rose by Brosseau. I can still remember what the post office smelled like in summer....and I would eagerly await the letters he sent in response.....I still have them in my hope chest. (Shhhhh...don't tell me hubby) I can't imagine ever parting with them. Not because of my feelings for the old boyfriend, per se, but because of the feelings---period. It's hard to imagine I was ever that young! And so, so so in love.

I haven't read them in years, but I do know that they are free of any sex stuff...he may have talked about kissing me once or twice...but they were very sweet and lyrical about how I made him feel, or how lovely my smile was, and how he thought about me daily. In one of them, he wrote about brushing across the lower part of my back with his fingers....and I would read that over and over as if it were the most romantic thing ever written! :)

We found each other on facebook the other day--our first date was 20 years ago this week. I took a chance and thanked him for all the wonderful memories and said I still had his letters. He still has mine too and told me that summer was one of the most important in his whole life. It brought me to tears....so bittersweet thinking about that young girl. It doesn't even seem like it was me.

So yes, i HEART love letters. :)

P.S. The boyfriend I had before him wrote me smutty letters, and I eventually burned them. Just thinking about them now makes me kinda mad.....it is very clear which of the two had greater respect for me.

My hubby and I met on match.com, so there were some funny emails written back and forth before we met officially....and I still have them in my inbox....but that is so different than old letters in a hope chest. Even though I love him best. :)

When my mother died, I got her Bible, and tucked between two pages was a love letter my father wrote to her when he was away in the Korean War after they were first married. It was nothing racy, just day to day stuff, but one line in particular--"I feel so all alone at night without you to hold..." made me cry. It must have meant a lot to her, too, for keeping it all those years. Maybe try for something heartfelt and simple like that.

That's beautiful. It almost brought me to tears. I found a song on my ipod the other day and it turned into a mix cd that i made him with explanations of all the reasons i put that song on the cd. One was "see you in september" by the tempos. I put it as the last one as that's when i'll see him next, august 30.
