i just searched this thread and didn' t really see anything about it...anyone who is questioning what color of red should try to get themselves to a prescriptives counter. they'll do something called "colorprinting" which finds your skin's undertones and coordinates makeup accordingly. at least then you'll know if you should go cooler or warmer or whatever. but then again, i'm also a firm believer in "if you love it...then wear it". (oh and my favorite is Angel Red by clinique.)

I've never been a fan of red lipstick (always thought it made me look like a clown), but ever since I've been doing research on vintage makeup trends, I've gotten over my fear.

A few nights ago, I went out and bought my very first red lipstick. Its Revlon ColorStay #335 Oppulent Garnet (3rd from the right on the second to last row)...the best thing about it is that it doesnt take much of the color (at least for me) to get a rich red on my lips (although from the website, it doesnt look very red, it is in real life).

:D :D I went to the MAC counter last night! Russian Red was reccomended and purchased, along with a liner. Don't remember the liner shade, but it was the closest match. From not wearing lipstick ever, I look quite odd. I think it looks decent though, and I'm sure I'll like it more once I get used to it. Thanks ladies for the reccomendation!!

I have a new night time look that I love! During the day I wear Ruby Woo or Besame Red Hot Red but for the evening I like a slightly more sultry look and wear Besame Cherry Red and a dark wine nailpolish from Bourjois!

Where are you ladies buying these lippies? I was going to treat myself to a tube of lipstick as a reward for surviving my first week in my new job - yippee! - but I was surprised to see good ol' workhorse Revlon at eight dollars apiece at Walgreens. Should I go to Walmart? Should I go to Rite-Aid? Should I stop being such a kvetch? [huh]

New Daytime Red: Chanel's Enigma.
Medium pinkish nudish brownie red. Made of so many colors, it lives up to it's name! :) But that means it matches a lot of different outfits. It was in my stash from days gone by and I found it again. It's kind of a deep rose....and it smells like one too! (some people don't like the scent, but i love it)

Walmart tends to be the cheapest, then Target. The only good thing about Walgreens, Rite-Aid, and CVS is that they often have buy one get one half off or buy one get one free sales.

Wait for the sales, and/or clip coupons from the newspaper. Drugstores send out weekly circulars, and the newspaper usually has both the circulars and manufacturer coupons.

I hate paying full price for makeup too, because it's a gamble. I don't want to pay $8-20 to experiment with a new tube of mascara every time another formula slides off my lashes!

My favourite lipstick at the moment is MAC Cockney. It's a lovely color, sheered and perfect for summer. Plus it has a good staying power!

I've been using Revlon's "Wine With Everything", which is a not-too-dark shade of wine red. I layer it over a nude lipliner for staying power, as it's creamy.

More often, though, I wear Neutrogena's "Ruby Bliss". It's a sheer, moisturizing lipstick. Not really a bright vintage red, but I like the softer effect. The red looks fantastic when I'm smiling, but if I'm looking serious, I'm afraid it looks too harsh. I guess it's an incentive to avoid scowling. :)

I found it VERY helpful to upload a picture on taaz.com . You can try out many different lipsticks, liners and glosses. Below are some quick examples, I cropped out the rest of the face, because I am not wearing any makeup

according to the MAC website and e-mail i received today, the Euristocrats2 line is available now in the US - Cockney is up for grabs!

oh and here's a free shipping and mascara sample code: lash69 (i don't know how long that is good for though!)

This is why you buy from Sephora! You can return/exchange anything, used or not, no questions asked.

Cockney looks really pink on the site - no?
I have an AMAZING sheer red called "Oceanberry" from Mac. Don't know if they still make it. Looks like a dark black-red in the tube but looks berry on the lips.
