Yes

Thats her over Hamilton Ontario Canada.
The Tri-motor is owned by Greg Herrick and is being flown by world famous
pilot Jimmy Leeward who we hired to specifically do this flying.

I like Hillary But I'd rather see someone like... Cate Blanchett do it.

Why not?

She's done Kate Hepburn so she can do spunky!

And she's pulled a Bette Davis by playing Queen Elizabeth twice.

(And anyone that can be *With good reason* compared to La Bette favorably is OK in my book.)

I think everyone will be quite happy with Hilary in the role of Amelia.
The first time I took her flying, she asked me to take her picture in front of my airplane. As I went to do this, I immediately realised that she was using the real Amelia's pose and smile. When I commented on this, she was delighted that I noticed as she had been practicing both for weeks in front of a mirror.
Hilary is very determined to portray Amelia as accurately as possible. She would often stop in the middle of the airplane/aviation related scenes to consult me as to whether or not she doing or saying things properly.
Altogether, she came across as a very professional actor with a strong work ethic.
We had a lot of fun making the movie.
Hope everone enjoys it.

Hello all

I am new to the Forum and as a point of interest in this thread, I am the Airplane Wrangler and Aerial Coordianter for the movie.
An an Aviation Historian, I will say that the movie will be quite accurate to the era and Hilary Swank is doing quite well at portraying Amelia.

Hi,

I'm a chick pilot and I'd love to know more about the plane used in the movie. Is it real? Or did they build a replica of the hull? Where is it now?

Cheers,
flygirl

And this is where she landed when she flew across the Atlantic. Burry Port,
the Town of Llanelli is in the background.... and I live about 10mins away from here.:) :) :)
Can't wait to see this movie!!..

How 'bout that! I've been to Burry Port and to Llanelli! I toured the Buckley's Brewery
back in '84. I've got all kinds of Buckley's stuff - bar towels, bar coasters, pens, bottle
labels
and four cans of Celtic Bright!

For the movie, I hired 12 different aircraft from various owners including my own aircraft also.
We also made a full size static Foker Tri-Motor on floats ( now in The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Museum) and a full size static Lockheed Vega ( now in the Paul Allen Aviation Collection)
On top of that we made mock up cockpits for the Fokker, Vega and Lockheed 10 Electra.
I also hired three local female pilots that were current on antique bi-planes in case we needed them to fly. None had to fly but all 3 made it into major scenes.

Her look is right, but I wonder if Swank can do the Kansas accent -- and bring her voice up about two octaves (what's the deal with her voice? is she a chain smoker?).

I bet she'll do a good job. She's done rolls in which she spoke in dialect/accent before. She did a Southern accent in Million Dollar Baby and a Midwestern twang in Boys Don't Cry, both of which I think she pulled off well.

The REAL story about the Lost Flight of Amelia Earhart

For anyone interested in the 70 year old unsolved mystery of The Lost Flight of Amelia Earhart, they should read the new novel with the new findings based on historical evidence that she DID NOT crash and sink into the ocean. Return to the era of LADY LINDY where the AVIATRIX provides a role model for every progressive woman. You are in the pilot seat on a far away island ... visit www.ameliaearhartmovie.com for details about the movie and the book THE LOST FLIGHT OF AMELIA EARHART.

Sounds like a good flick, but I gotta ask; was Amelia's hubby as old as her dad?
He doesn't look it.
Love the shot w/her plane & the Cord btw.

That shot was taken at Toronto International Airport just inside the Mallard Air Hanger. I was standing just behind the onset photographer when it was taken.
At the time there was a slight break in shooting a hanger scene and they quickly set that that still shot up. Most people on set did not even realize it was happening.

Boy, am I looking forward to this!

As a lifelong aviation tragic and former pilot I find this a fascinating story. I have read numerous accounts from pilots critical of her skill and that she was unprepared, but I'm not sure how fair they are. One thing is for certain - plenty of guts. Lots of angles to work in the movie.

I was looking at her Lockheed Vega just a few months ago in the Smithsonian. Its sitting right next to the 'Tingmissartoq' Lockheed Sirius floatplane that Charles Lidbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh flew. Thats sensory overload for me right there!

Just mention golden age air racing and I get excited in ways I don't even understand. I wish somone would make a film of the 1929 air races.

Could you imagine the uproar today if a private entry outperformed the best aircraft the military could put up. The 1929 Travelair Mystery Ship would have to be one of my all time favourite designs
