Hi everyone!

I've spent a few hours turning something over and thought maybe you ladies would have some good ideas.

My fiance is terrible at picking presents. Therefore it is down to me to pick the present for my future brother-in-law and his soon to be wife. I'm normally very good at present buying but I have never met either of them so this is proving difficult.

A few pointers:

My fiance hasn't spoken to his brother in years and has never met his future sister in law. We're not invited to the wedding.
They are both in their mid thirties and have been living together for some time.
Our budget is around £30.
They're marrying at the weekend so it has to be something I can buy in-store (Yep, this was sprung up on me today!)

I'm thinking maybe some nice photoframes, or candle lanterns. I'm not sure though.

Any ideas?

If they've been living together for quite sometime, they probably have all the appliances they need. I was thinking appliances first like a toaster, blender, flatware set,a crystal bowl or glasses (does NOT have to be expensive crystal).
I'm also thinking engraved/personalized items with their names and wedding date on it.
Perhaps the bride is crafty? You could buy a scrapbook with some wedding themed paper, stickers and other scrapbook accessories so she can have fun starting a scrapbook of their new life together.
Other nice gifts would be electronic things like those digital frames, a camera, or maybe a gift card for Amazon or somewhere like that.

Lastly, none of my business but if you are not invited to the wedding, even though you are part of the family, why should they even expect a gift from you. Not really a question, but more of a statement here.

I said exactly the same thing, but I think my fiance just wants to keep it all civil.

Thanks for the ideas. The scrapbook one in particular is a good idea. Apparently she is very arty.

Suscribe them to something like those muffin-baskets a month thing, they have them for baked goods and for cheeses/meats and for fruit baskets and things as well as like microbrewery beer and wine. That's a year of baskets of nice treats which is thoughtful and not stuff that has to go with their other stuff?

I'd also be tempted to get a ceramic vase as its the sort of thing that's hard to figure out how much it cost. Hint: In this case with these extenuating circumstances re: invitation, it wouldn't be expensive! lol

Some of our favorite presents were gift cards. Lots of our friends and family don't share our interests or tastes, and they really came in handy when we realized we had things left we needed to stock out home with.

I agree with Lauren. Giftcards are a great practical gift. It might seem abit impersonal, but at least they can choose exactly what they want.

Not too north, not too south; just right, in CA.

Without having a close relation to the groom and his bride-to-be, and not even being invited to the wedding, any gift you send will be more of a token or a duty. You could get them a subscription to a magazine - maybe something like a home improvement type of magazine or house decor - and enclose the notice of the subscription in a sweet card wishing them the best.
