A Night at the Opera - Astonishingly, this was the first time I'd seen it, and I've seen just about all of the Marx Brothers films, especially the Paramount films.

My daughter and I went to go see G-Force (guinea pigs as secret agents - I know. How did this story ever get sold in Hollywood?) tonight. I was prepared to be disappointed, but it was actually pretty cute.

The Locked Room, with a brunette Barbara Stanwyck and an oily Rod LaRocque. Smooth cad Rod is shot by husband of Barbara, but Barb tries to take the rap for her otherwise noble spouse.
From 1929, its got that weird combo of actors emoting like it was still a silent film, and the rest actually acting. Barbara steals the show, only once or twice falling victim to the story's stage origins (stiff gesturing, clunky dialogue).
Set design by William Cameron Menzies, who delivers a gambling ship, a rogue's luscious digs, and the good guys' palatial abode, sometimes dwarfing the acting.

Sitting in the projection booth watching "Cheri" for the thirteenth time. Michelle Pfeiffer does a fine job, and the Belle Epoque settings and costumes are suitably lush. But I have never seen, and will never see, what any intelligent woman could possibly see in a empty-headed puffball like Cheri. Get a haircut and a job, ya upper-class parasite.

The last movie I watched, well, rental wise was "M" and telly wise, "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House." While I have seen the latter quite a few times, that one scene regarding the paint colors never gets old. lol
As for the former, I had not seen it prior to, though I will say I enjoyed it quite thoroughly. One of my favorite scenes in that film would have to be where they first bring in Peter Lorre's character in for "judgement (in lacking of better words)," and they do that long shot of everyone just staring at him in complete silence.

About a dozen of us die-hard fans watched It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World. We started the evening quoting our favorite parts, the way some folks do A Christmas Story.

Last night I watched "The Awful Truth" 1937 with Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. This is a film that was made 72 years ago and is still very funny. I bet not many people will be laughing at "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" in 2081. They just don't make movies the way they used to.
