I have to agree! Claudette Colbert is just adorable in It Happened One Night. It was the first movie I had seen with her and she was fantastic. I would venture to say Ellie Andrews was definitely one of my main style influences first starting out. :)

So many to choose from, but one that I've found particularly mesmerizing, is the Orry-Kelly jumper dress Ingrid Bergman wore in Casablanca. Oh, I love the flowy, flirty dresses of the early 1930's films, especially the ones with Kay Francis, but there is something so wearable about this outfit.

This one has always been one of my favorites. The dress was a hit with film-goers in the 40s too, and there there many copies made.

That Funny Face wedding dress is another of my favorites, along with almost everything else Audrey Hepborn worn in that movie.

I love that outfit in Casablanca, its so simple! I also like the fact she is wearing low shoes... very rare to see a leading lady in anything less than 4" killer platforms!

I heard that a lot of costume were often recycled over the years :(... its sad to think that alot, if not most of these costume arn't still around

A bit out of the timeframe i love best (20s and 30s) but.... wow!!!!!!!!

This has to be one of the most gorgeous gowns that ever came out of the 1950s! An Edith Head creation for Grace Kelly ... the movie "Rear Window"

OMG!!!!!:D

these are all gorgeous frocks, ladies!

i hate to be a cliche with this next one, but hey, a classic is a classic is a classic!!

Yes! :eusa_clap Audrey certainly had class and Grace had it too!
Grace always looked like a princess way, way back, no wonder she became one in real life! ;) This photo is not from a movie but apparently she wore this when she walked the red carpert to receive her Oscar for "The Country Girl"..... how lovely is this gown?

My favorite costume changes daily, but today's favorite is "confusion" by Adrian. It is the crazy cotton ball thing in the back.

Just to indicate the perfectionism of both the designer and the studio workrooms during the classic Hollywood era, there is one outfit, called "Confusion" which consists of little more than 200 balls of silk net, each fashioned from 10 yards of material. Today, if you can find silk net, it costs about $50/yard…or yes, over $100,000 of silk net at today's cost. The net trembles around the wearer, hiding and revealing, resulting in "Confusion." Since all of the balls had to be symmetrical, they were made by one person in the MGM wardrobe department, who worked on it for almost a month. This is for one extra's costume that appears on the screen for about 30 seconds. The studio got a lot of publicity mileage out of it though; sending it to Paris as an example of the most fabric ever used in a single garment.

I loved this Mia Farrow outfit from the Great Gatsby. I also liked the Ingrid Bergman dress from Casablanca that was posted above.

I liked these too (not very good images but they're the best I could find). They're from the movie Gilda.

What i would give to look like this...
I love all the costumes in this movie...it's one of my favorite movies of all time. My favorite dress (but i can't find it) is the blue one she wears first. When she "discovers" that she's pretty... Her figure is amazing in that one.

I pretty much love everything Ginger Rogers wears, but my favorite costume - like December's - is "Feathers" from the Cheek to Cheek number. I love so much that I made it and wore it to DragonCon last year.

(My Fred and I are in makeup to make it look like we're in Black and White, by the way.)
