....I also saw a killer dark denim USN looking popover with white stitching and side gussets. I can't find it online, but trust me, it was cool. ...

I went buy the GAP today to pick-up one of those chin-strap work shirts and I saw those USN style denim pullovers that flat-top is talking about. They are indeed really cool!

I just picked up the demin one with flap pockets at our local Gap. Supplies were really limited and they only had 2 grey ones that didn't fit. They didn't have a demin in my size either but it seems they are made to ft tight so a larger size actually fit good, luckily. They are a comfortable shirt and thanks for the heads-up on these.

The pullover rocks!
I picked one up today. :)

The Gap on Times Square has the buy one get one free.

When I went to the GAP on Market street in San Francisco they weren't doing the 2 for 1 deal. I even tried telling them that the Times Square store in NY had that offer going. Alas, they were not impressed by my Fedora Lounge word of mouth info:rage:

It's not just those shirts..it's ALL the shirts in the store, and I would imagine that it would have to be company wide. Weird.

Do you have a link to something from GAP referring to that two for one sale? When I asked they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about! I feel like maybe they ripped me off.

Considering this economy, I was actually shocked at how bad the service I got at the GAP and the Levi store on Union Square in SF was the other day! You think they'd make more of an effort to make a sale. At the Levi's store they basically told me I didn't belong in the "retro reproduction" section (and I was wearing a Levi's Japan re-pop cinch-back jacket at the time?!?!?).

That sale has never been listed on their web site, but if you Google "Gap buy one get one free", there are some sites (other than this one) talking about it. I doubt that will do you much good in pleading your case.
The sale signage in the store was actually not very prominent; they were small table top signs that said something like "all shirts, t-shirts and sweaters buy one get one free".

Ok, so a quick update: I was just at the mall today (I work there) and the Gap's buy one get one sale is now being marketed with HUGE window signs, so there's no way this is not nationwide. I also found even more chinstrap shirts (crazy, right?). A check plaid style that comes in, I think 4 colors. Kinda cool.
Edit* I found the check shirts online:

Thanks for that info flat-top. I have to go back that way this week, I'll investigate further.

Also, good find on that checked shirt! That really is a classic workwear style!

I almost bought it today, but have to run it by the wife. I bought the grey chambray that DM has and a blue campshirt yesterday, so you see my dilemma. Went to another store, wish I had gone there yesterday as they have the grey, the USN, the new button down collar blue chambray and the original light blue flap pocket.

The USN and the button down are both selvedge and very nice, although I hate button downs, so I am going to get the USN and the blue flap pocket.

Cheers.

Anyone have any hands on experience with Juan's US Army denim pullover shirt . . . for $70 . . .Concerned about durability -- are these cut for the job or are they to simply "look" the part?

http://www.wwiiimpressions.com/images/denimshirt.JPG

or the USN US Navy chambray shirt

for $60

or if you've no first hand info then some anecdotal hearsay from a 4th party reenactor always works great . . .

Thanks
