Can you help me date this item??

I need help dating these two brooches I bought at an estate sale. They may well be modern, but I'd like to know for certain. Vintage jewelry is one area I'm pretty clueless in.

This leaf brooch looks the most modern to me, particularly from the back. The silver metal it's made of isn't tarnishing. There may be a tiny, tiny mark on the very tip consisting of two swirly letters, but it's hard to tell. (Clicking the thumbnails will take you to a bigger image.)

Brooch with foil-backed rhinestones and tiny imitation pearl beads. I love the design, even if it's not vintage.

It must have been made of some sort of base metal, as you can see the dark brass/gold-toned coating coming off in areas. The pin back on this one doesn't look particularly modern (to me).

The person who gave this bag to me said it's vintage, but I have no idea of handbags. Do you think it would at least go well with a vintage outfit (in the summer)?

Purse...

I am getting a late 60's early 70's, inclination. The plastic floral arrangement screams 70's at me, for some reason.

Can any one please help with info on Young ViewPont of New York
I have this suit, jacket and dress I told it's 40's I not sure if it is even 40's then is it late or towards the 50's + any info on Young ViewPont

Hi Paul, the cut of the suit to me is more 50's, I guess one way to tell if the suit is 40's is look for shoulder pads. The tag also looks rather 50's. Nice stockings btw!

Shore Road Lady: I think the top brooch could be from the last 30 or 40 years, my thinking is maybe sometime between the 1960's-1980's

I'd also agree on the 50's vibe, especially the turned back cuffs; I have those on two 1950's suits I own.

It has small shoulder pads , had not thought to much about the turned back cuffs until you brought that up.

Based on a vague bit of info ...I would place it post war, or early 50's...

WPL

Hi ladies-

This is my first post of what I'm sure will be many. I have enjoyed exploring the forum and I have learned a lot by reading other people's posts. Now I have a question of my own regarding dating.

I have a wool dress that was marked "50s" by the vintage store where it was purchased. It looks 50s to me as well and that tag says "WPL 12471"

I "googled" WPL and learned the meaning and history (it stands for "Wool Products Labeling Act" and according to an eBay guide on clothing labels
"WPL numbers were issued from 1941 through 1959 under the Wool Products Labeling Act. WPL numbers begin at 00101 and end at 13669. All numbers issued subsequently are RN numbers.")

If this is correct, then my dress would definitely be 50s. However, is there a way to narrow it to a year or span of years based on the five digit number that follows "WPL"?

Other info about the dress:
-metal zipper (I know what that means from reading previous posts)
-it has small fabric loops that snap to hold bra straps in place, I presume
-the sewn-in label says "Pixie of California"
-The label that says "WPL 12471" is actually a paper tag that I assume would have been removed before wear. That makes me think this dress was never worn, though it certainly does not appear to be dead stock
-the size on the paper tag is 7. I am a modern day XS/0. I know that currently and historically, odd-numbered sizes indicate a junior/misses item. Is this correct? When would a 7 have been a modern-day XS?

Sorry for the slew of questions.

You have to be the best-informed newbie we've ever had!
You won't be able to post pics until you've done 15 non-pictured posts, so post away... but it sounds as if you've nailed it down!
Still, the very best way to date stuff is catalogs and magazines of the era, that way you can narrow it down to the month!

I have just listed this on Ebay. My question is with the sleeves? Does anyone know why they are shaped like that? Does this indicate a certain time period? It is a real mouton coat from Carson Perrie Scott. Any ideas would be great!

I just wrestled with my conscience over a sheared beaver swing coat. Decided not to go for it afterall. That coat had full length sleeves and turn back cuffs too and the original furrier label with the owner's name and address dated 1952. If that helps.

I don't know what the blouson effect on your sleeve indicates. Any chance the turn back cuff should be turned back even more? See picture 2...if you can turn the cuff all the way up so it is on an even line with the full part of the sleeve...then, to me it would look like more of a bell shape...maybe? [huh] I can't tell if the cuff, itself is split in the back to allow more turn up or if it's a solid sewn cuff.
