Hmmm, sounds like you're leaning towards Winter then. Emerald is a Winter colour along with the red and bright blue. The teal might just be one of the colours from another season that happens to suit you. That happens sometimes!

General rule is, if it looks good next to you without any make-up, then it's one of your colours. If it washes you out, then it isn't. More of one season than any other will suit you best. Of course, you can wear some colours fine *with* make-up if you want to, but if you want to look your best, you'd choose colours that sit with your natural colouring.

Good luck!

I posted this earlier in the custom repro thread but didn't get much of a response. I actually think it is probably better suited for this thread.

I would love some advice/opinions on what you ladies think would be a good color combination for this dress in general and for me in particular? Also, any speculation as to what it's original color was?

Thanks!

Christy, is it just me, or does the gray accenting look like a detail that she added to the photo, and not part of the original dress?

The main color of the dress looks like it would have been white, though cream and pale yellow are also possible. The buttons could likely be blue, red, or black, and I would choose the same color for the trim. I am not sure which colors look best on you, but I think favorable combinations would be:

White w/ Navy Blue
Pale Yellow w/ Red
Ivory/cream with black or blue

Photo aside, I would just choose my favorite and best colors, keeping in mind the shoes I'd probably wear with the dress, making sure they go together. I think navy and pink would be cute like someone mentioned in the other thread.

Personally, I would actually probably end up going with white and navy blue (or green for the trim, hmm), as I like both, have shoes to match, and think they are perfect for summer/day wear. I think white is perfect because the overall look is just so.. smolder-y, but not too overtly sexy. It's a light look. however if this were for a night-time event, I would choose a darker color for the base, and something shiny.

Hope this helps!

SayCici, now that you mention it, it does look like she added it to the photo. It looks like this is the original photo. It's a costume test photo for the movie "We're not Married". It looks like she's taken the pockets out as well. She probably made the trim solid because she doesn't have trim like the photo.

I would love to see that dress in cream or ivory with dark red trim.

Or pale, pale dove gray, with black trim, for a look that is sexy but not overtly naughty.

I wear a lot of greens -- avocado, forest, you name it -- and mustard yellows, as well as various greys & warm oranges and such. I'm very fair and my eyes are green, so green tends to look awesome on me. My hair is naturally strawberryish blonde but I have it hennaed to a brighter coppery red. Usually accents of gold/orange/etc look nice, but I can't get away with wearing, say, an entire rust coloured outfit. Though I do love rust coloured things!

I also wear a lot of teal. I love teal & mustard yellow together, and teal & avocado green together. And I tend to think some form of grey looks good with just about anything lol

Viola- I was thinking of doing a light gray with black trim, or a pale pink and black trim. I like the idea of ivory or cream, but I'm always afraid to get anything in that shade because they get dirty easy or because I'm afraid I'll look washed out because I'm so fair.

Saycici- I actually haven't seen We're not Married, but I found a website that shows costume tests for the movies she was in. So, it could be that maybe the outfit was used in a scene that was cut or maybe they decided not to use it at all? Here's the link to the website if you're interested.

Christy, I'm sorry, I know I've seen color pics of you (at least I'm pretty sure I have) but I don't remember - are you a pinkish fair or a more ivory fair?

If you ARE ivory, I don't recommend ivory - my sister can never wear warm whites like that because it just makes her look ill. But if you are pink, ivory can be very flattering to that, which is why I myself lean to ivory, bright white makes me look very much like a tomato with feet. :)

Viola, I think I lean more toward a pinkish fair, but I'm not sure. I just remember my mom telling me that white washed me out because I'm so fair skinned. I think I look better in cool tones. I tend to wear reds, blues, burgundies, plums, darker greens, colors kind of in that range.

Edited to add: I ended up ordering the dress in pale pink with black trim.

SayCici sent me over here! How have I missed this thread before??? I feel like a dope. I am wanting to order this dress from Top Runway. . .

Just not sure what color to select. I am pale, but unlike Christy, I wear white all year long and it suits me. My husband says its because I am so pale that wearing white makes me look like I have some color...is this possible? I don't really have a problem with any colors, does that make me neutral? I hardly own any black, just a few pieces. I don't really think I wear black well. I fray more into navy blue and chocolate brown, but I could just be crazy. I think this dress in black would be nice...Help me ladies! :eusa_doh: [huh]

I'm pale and I've always gotten compliments when I wear white. I think it makes me look like I have some color.

Before making a judgment about the dress, let's see some color photos of you wearing various colors.

PS, I think you are a summer. I'm pretty sure there are some summer palattes posted in this thread. The white, red, and aqua clothes all look good on you. I'm not sure if black would make you look washed out, but with your light hair and eyes, it might work. (I don't think black looks good with middle-of-the-road complexions.)

PS, I love that dress, good choice! I think that dress would look pretty in any of the colors that you mentioned. Did you want it in black? I don't know if you'd look washed out or not. Maybe get it in navy instead of black if you're worried about looking washed out?

I have a white dress with a turquise, coral and black small scale print; that I want to "winterize"(Being as I live in Florida, I can wear white all yearround!). I will be pairing it with black shoes, glaves, purse and hat. My problem is, the only coat I have in black is black faux fur coat. I put it on the hanger with it and to me it looks over powering. Maybe its just sitting on the hanger it looks bad. Any ideas? I will try and get pictures tonight of all the pieces invovlved.

You look like a Summer to me from what you've got here. Were you a towhead (white ) blonde as a little kid and a baby? What color are your eyes, cannot tell. No freckles?

Yes I was a tow head and I have very blue eyes, nope no freckles.
I looked up seasons onlines, I had never really heard about this stuff before. It looked like like I am a Light Spring/Light Summer...they are sister colors? This all sounds kind of goofy. But that being said, if I am a light summer or whatever, how do I wear a light blue dress in the fall/winter?
I just don't get it.
