So everyone knows the Yankees won the World Series. No big secret. For those who watched the parade, you saw A-Rod sporting a stingy brim fedora. So I go to my job wearing my fedora like I have been doing for years and I hear. "Hey, You stole A-Rods hat"

It could be worse. The Fort Hood Shooter, Nidal Hasan, could have been wearing a Stingy Brim for his mug shot. I'll take A-Rod.

Not at all surprising

It seems that a large percentage of the American populous has "foot in mouth" disease. I most often wear a dress or skirt and actually comb my hair before leaving the house, and it seems never to fail that I will hear someone "compliment" or query me on being "dressed up."

The remaining portion of the country seems to have "stating the obvious" disorder. Less than a week has passed since I was casually informed by a perfect stranger that I need to lose a lot of weight. Thankfully they arrived just in time, as every reflective surface in my house was out of order that day. lol

If every major sports figure wore a hat, we'd have more options and better quality products.

A-Rod, keep wearing it! And tell your friends to do the same!

* 1 Aruba
* 2 Australia
* 3 Canada
* 4 Colombia
* 5 Cuba
* 6 Curaçao
* 7 Dominican Republic
* 8 Japan
* 9 Mexico
* 10 Nicaragua
* 11 The Netherlands
* 12 Panama
* 13 Puerto Rico
* 14 South Korea
* 15 Taiwan
* 16 United States
* 17 Venezuela

Here is the video that goes with it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmxT21uFRwM

This usage can be traced through the annual baseball guides. Spalding's Base Ball Guide for 1887 reported the results of the 1886 postseason series between Chicago, champions of the National League, and St. Louis, champions of the American Association, under the heading "The World's Championship." As the editor noted, the two leagues "both entitle their championship contests each season as those for the base ball championship of the United States," so a more grandiose name was required to describe the postseason showdown between the two "champions of the United States."

But the Spalding Guide -- which, after all, was published by one of the world's largest sporting goods companies, with a vested interest in bringing baseball to other lands -- had grander ambitions. By 1890, the Spalding Guide was explaining that "[t]he base ball championship of the United States necessarily includes that of the entire world, though the time will come when Australia will step in as a rival, and after that country will come Great Britain; but all that is for the future."

This didn't happen, but the name "World's Championship Series" stuck.

The other reason it can be said that it is not just a USA league is that there were/are Canadian teams. (and yes I know, that hardly makes it the world....)

There used to be both the Montreal Expo's (who have moved to Washington DC) and the Toronto Blue Jays.
