I just recently got 2 Knox Twenty's so I compared them with my Dobbs 20. They look identical to me. The only difference I could find was the bow tie was twisted on the Knox and straight folded on the Dobbs. All of them have that moldeable clay-like felt!

I was just checking the photos of my (sold) Dobbs Twenty of similar color, and Jimmy's pics of his hat look even more like my hat then do my own pics :)

Fortunately, out of the four I've owned, I was able to find one that fit perfectly - 'moldable clay-like' felt is a perfect description.

Copper ribbons rool!

By way of comparison - My tan Dobbs 15 "Gay Blade" with copper coloured ribbon. Similar vintage, style and colours to Jimmy's - but not in that league. My hat has had a harder life but that extra $5 made all the difference. You can just see the quality in Jimmy's felt.

Nonetheless... my little Gay lid remains a favourite.

There may be a good reason why they look identical, Buler. Compare the sticker on your Knox 20 with the sticker on my Dobbs 20:

The block is exactly the same, as is the depth of the crown. Looks like these two lids were definitely related. ;)

It's also interesting to me that the depth of the crown is 5 5/8". It seems much more common to see references to 5 1/2" or 5 3/4" crowns. And, since this is, at best, a difficult measurement to take, it may be that a 5 5/8" crown depth in vintage hats is often approximated as 5 1/2". Interesting...

Cheers,
JtL
