I need some new hairstyle ideas

It has been awhile since I have posted. I need (pics please) some cute new vintage hairstyle ideas. I just cut my hair short and now need to figure some new ways to style it that won't look cheesy yet fit my current cut. I don't really have any "decent" vintage styled photos when my hair was long, just one I took goofing around with my cell one night with a messy pinned back half done hair.

Forgot to add that my hair is naturally "very" curly, I straighten it when i blowdry it most days. But curls and pinned styles work real well on me because it takes little effort.

Your new shorter hair looks cute

I'm not as versed in the vintage styles as some are. I thought I would bump this to see if anyone would have any suggestions for you.

How about it girls. . . any ideas?

There are tons of pictures in the sticky threads at the top of the Beauty forum. Just look for photos!

There's one photo of Ingrid Bergman that comes to mind. It's in Turudich's 1940s Hairstyles book, but I can't seem to find it right now.

Your best bet is to just set it and see what happens. There's not much you can do by way of updos, but I'm sure you can get a lovely style with some setting lotion and rollers. Also, try pulling the sides back with combs.

What a beauty you are. I love the long hair/flowers, reminds me of the 50's tiki style. I think your short hair, left to it's natural state would be adorable with it pinned at the sides with flowers.

You are really pretty, and it looks like you have really nice hair too! I love the red color! If your hair is naturally curly, why don't you try encouraging the curls one day to see how that turns out!? As a naturally stick straight person, I can tell you that I get curl envy every time I see a nice head of natural curls. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. [huh]

What i wouldn't give for curly hair, or at the least, a bit of a wave in mine !

youtube has a ton of tutorials for vintage styles. It's like a virtual encyclopedia for how to do your hair.

Stop blow drying! It is bad for your hair, and curls are so cool!

Can we see a pic of your new shorter hair, the way it is if you don't blow dry, and just let it air dry after combing? That will give us all a clue as to how curly it is, where the waves are etc.,and will make it easier to hunt hairdo's for you.

I'm pretty much hopeless at doing things with my hair, but I've just bought a couple of new "tortoiseshell" (plastic) headbands, the kind that look like Alice bands but have an elastic band underneath. Alice bands always slide on me within an hour or so and this one stayed put and looked good in my hair ALL DAY at work without fussing with it.

Try headbands! And fascinators. I love a short bob with a fascinator.

Not quite a hat, and a barrette on steroids! lol

It's one of those fluffy little doo-dads often featuring feathers or a silk flower that you see in movies with '20s flappers and '30s cabaret dancers and whatnot.

Here's an Etsy seller I'm eyeing lovingly. Look how cute!

Oh, those!

The 20s ones are called "aigrettes" , which seems to be after the word egret, from egret feathers. I think fascinator is a newish term. No wonder I didn't know it, I am hopelessly unhip.

Really though, the etsy ones look like 80s wedding stuff to me... I remember these from the 80s.
I wish someone would make nice authentic 20s looking ones.

I didn't want to start another thread, thus I thought of using this already existing thread (it seemed the most fitting out of all the ones I considered). Nonetheless, I certainly could use the advice/opinion from you gals.

It's getting to that time again where I shall be getting a haircut. My usual options are either a trim (if I wish to keep my almost shoulder length hair at such) or a bob (and if with bangs, Louise Brooks style, of course).

However, I've lately been in a rut, life-wise, and we all know how a make-over/change of style can be a picker-upper. Well, I've found a rather modern and short hairstyle which I've been considering, but the problem is, if I get such a cut, vintage hairstyles will be no more (at least until my hair grows out). Outfits as well, as I don't think I could pull off a modern-haircut and early twentieth century attire. Thus I'm torn between making a change for a bit for the sake of having the feel of a "fresh start" or continuing my usual haircuts so I may continue to dress and wear vintage (that I do love dearly).

Any comments/advice/etc. are most gratefully appreciated!

What about a new short 'do that's flexible enough to go vintage? Something Audrey-ish? Elizabeth Taylor-ish? Or very short and '20s?

There's no reason to make it same ol' vs. modern. Do something different and also vintage!

Hi Adele, If I was you I wouldn't do anything too drastic that you may regret later! I have had long hair most of my life and wanted a change a few years back and cut it in a really short modern style. I wished I had maybe gone for a bob or something not so drastic straight away. I was so glad when it grew longer. Everyones different,but maybe try a subtle change first then if you feel it's not enough of a change then you can go shorter. I just know myself I like having the option to style my hair vintage and more modern if I want.
