Exactly my point.
It would also help if the hats they make function as hats are supposed to---shade you from the sun and rain without falling apart or fading within the first year. My friend buys new Stetsons and the black dress hats just can't take the wear. [huh]

That "dress" hats (yeah, yeah, there's gotta be a better word) have become a sideline and are regarded almost like costume pieces is evidenced in the names some of the mass manufacturers inflict upon their models. You know, the names of famous Depression-era bank robbers and lawmen and such (or characters from period-piece movies, such as Indiana Jones). It's as though their own manufacturers regard the hats as most appropriate for "theme" events and not everyday attire.

YESSS exactly! this is why i never cared for fedora type hats..they all seemed to costumey. i saw the vintage one depp was wearing and really dig it.

thats to bad, same with top hats. there all so cheesey now, i really like the old ones that had the curve to it and height. now there all streamlined plane cheap looking a boring.

i bidded on this stetson last night...

it was stated as being 7 1/8

i figured what i'd do is buy the hat and have it stretched like Daniel had done to his.

after i won i read an email from the seller stating the hat is 21 1/2 inches...

he has it listed on ebay like this..

"Vintage Stetson 3X beaver hat size 7 1/8",

7 1/8 is 22 1/4 inches NOT 21 1/2

7 1/8 ---- 22 1/4 ----- 57 ------ Medium

so i told them i would Pay for the relisting of the hat.
and they replied by saying they would sell it to the person before me".

now today i got a threating email stating, i should pay for the listing fee of the hat anyway..or they will file a complaint against me on ebay.

why should i pay for there listing fee if there selling it to the person before me?? and they made the mistake on the hat size??

i wanted to contact ebay and tell them that the hat size was listed incorrectly..but it hasn't been ten days.

Seller measurements can be way off. Sometimes hat sizes actually are correct, sometimes the measurements are correct.

What a waste of time to buy a hat on ebay.

this guy went psychotic on me. Threatening me in emails for $4 dollars.

hes probably going to sell it to the guy who bided before me and now hes trying to scare me into giving him 4 dollars.
People never stop surprising me how creepy they turn out to be..

If your going to buy hats on e-bay you're going to need 2 things, a hat stretcher and a steam kettle. I got all 3 of my stretchers off e-bay ones a new cheaply and the other 2 are vintage. Kettles can be had at Target for about $20. Indispensable for reshaping a crease or brim. The stretcher also makes a good handle for holding the hat while you steam the brim or crown.
I'd have taken that hat anyway it looked very nice I almost bid on it and I wear a 7 1/4, the label clearly said 7 1/8. Hats shrink over time and a little steam and stretching would have fixed it right up. If not you could have resold it here and made your money back

but i have found some stetson Open road hats online..

apparently i was correct. after two months of trying to figure out what hat he was wearing i came to either buying an akubra hat or the boralino.

Hello, New member here.

Hi everyone,
I was browsing for hats to buy and stumbled on the Lounge. One of the things I read was about Wormser hats. Someone identified it as a Chattanooga hat manufacturer. ( At least that's how I remember the post.) Well if this has long ago been visited forgive me. In 1972 I was a retail hat salesman for Wormser in Nashville, TN. at the corner of 5th and Arcade. (Google Nashville arcade, it was really cool!) I don't know the ancient history but at that time Wormser did not manufacture anything. The hats were made at a factory in Winchester Tn. This factory was operated by Byer- Rolnick (sp?) Which was the only american hat manufacturer left. They had recently (at the time) acquired Stetson, and also made the Dobbs and Knox hat as well as the Wormser label. Wormser was based in Chicago, and still had several locations at the time, besides Nash. and Chatt. there was Atlanta, D.C. and others. I worked with two gentlemen, Ernest Goodman the manager, and Robert Frazier the asst. manager. They both had made good and long careers working there. I can only say that I wish I still had all the hats that I had purchased there while working. One quick funny story; this was during the "Superfly" era, wool felts with flashy bands were popular, selling for a hefty $9.95. A gentleman came in to purchase one and commented that across the street at "Boyd's" they were only $7.95. Mr. Frazier asked, "Then why didn't you buy one there?" To which the gentleman replied, "They're sold out." Mr Frazier replied, "When we're out of them they're $7.95 here too!"

I can try and give you a little bit of information on Wormser, but please remember, it may be full of inaccuracies and misquotes. Wormser made a good quality hat and the folks who collect vintage hats seem to enjoy getting one of those hats. They stopped manufacturing in the late 50's and most all of the manufacturing equipment was sold off. I was not aware that someone continued producing Wormser hats after they closed. There was a store called Wormser's that stayed open in Chattanooga. It changed hands and locations a few times and about a year and a half ago it closed for good. At the time it closed it was selling modern manufactured hats like Bailey and Stetson. The last owners were Oriental. They had a few old vintage hats that were not for sale. I don't know what happened to those. I tried to track them down and see if I could buy them but never had any luck.
