Moderation, not too modern

I agree, you may very well wake up the next day and hate it. If you do a mid-range length first, you can a;ways go shorter, but going longer takes a lot of time.

This is girl whom I did hair/makeup/photos for a few weeks ago. Her hair was to short to do anything with victory rolls. The picture doesn't totally capture it but I curled her hair all around and did some finger waves in the front. You might try something like this? I just soaked the front section of her hair with setting lotion and a little gel and combed in some s-curves. Not the best finger waves but they passed

What a dangerous thread this is.

I just grabbed the scissors and cut 6 inches off my hair.

Not too bad though! It's still a little wet in this picture. I plan to pincurl it before bed tonight and see how that goes.

Sara, I think it looks lovely! Lucky you having wavy hair to start with.

I had quite a bit hacked off mine recently but I'm never happy with my hair in it's natural straight way. It's actually really unflattering with my face shape (long and thin).

I can't curl it all the time - not suitable for work when I just tie it up anyway but I do sooooo dislike it!

Might have to have another 'permanent wave' soon to brighten things up.

Thanks Mis Sis!

It is taking some getting used to as it wants to stick out! But, I steam curled it last night for a party, and it looked great. It is barely long enough that I can still put it in a ponytail for dirty work (or to attache my fake hair to for instant long hair looks).

Could you maybe come up with a pincurl set that is tidy enough that you could wear it to work in it's pincurls? Then you could have glamour hair after work more easily... Do they let you wear scarves or snoods?

I got the cut so it's a little late to ask for advice on that. It's just a little below shoulder length to make it flip out at the ends, it's a side parted cut with full bangs that are sort of side swept and there are top and under layers to enable me to create the most volume possible with the least hassle. Well, theoretically it works and it looked pretty good in the salon. Not surprisingly, it didn't last after I got home.

I'd also explained that I wanted it to be easier to roll up and dry faster. I'm not so sure about that theory after she explained that it would be much easier to roll up with randomly placed layers than the uniform flat ones I had. Okay...[huh]

Funny enough, the full banged look, looks best on me without glasses but going without glasses isn't an option for me.

I'm willing to try to see if big velcro rollers are enough to create the maximum volume after a brush out and see if it makes the bouffant/flipped style last.

I can't see a thing without glasses and I'm hearing impared too.

I really didn't understand/hear the blow dry and product instructions. I recently threw gel, mousse, and hairspray out but I have travel sized mousse and hairspray I can use up while I experiment before I either a) buy new styling products or b) wash and go with something resembling a mullet and pretend that, that's the intention. I think mixing 70s and 50s is supposed to be trendy.

fftopic: You can't even see the purple "wings" at the outer corners of my eyes and you can't see the plum eyeshadow.

Lilliemor, can you wear contacts?

I always felt such an ugly duckling, but when I got my first pair of contacts (the same week that I was cast in my first vintage fashion show), I became a swan...

The correction isn't perfect, it doesn't address the astigmatism (although there are contacts that do, they are just expensive), but it corrects enough that I can drive and all that.

And it really opens up a world of hairdo's when you don't have to work around the glasses!

Miss 1929- I'm not even surprised on how lovely you look. If I ever see otherwise, that is when I will be shocked.

I ended up going with this haircut:

Basically, I just got a bit cut from the bottom, and got bangs. I'm happy with it thus far, but then again, I have yet to try a vintage hairstyle with it. I'll make it work, darn it!

Sadly, that's not an option for me but something good came of it all last evening.

The fuzzy pictures are still in my cellphone.

I rolled the crown up on large velcro rollers and the bangs on medium sized velcro rollers. The bangs was the hardest part. I didn't add styling products because I already had 3-4 products in my hair. Then I blow dried the whole thing, cooled off, took rollers out, blow dried again over a round brush that didn't have the right diameter either. Blow dried the bottom the other way around to make it flip.

Then I teased the backside a bit, smoothed the top over the teased part and voila; I had a pretty good trial idea of how a bouffant with flip looks like on me. So I know that technically it's possible and not that hard. I just need the right size tools and the right styling products.

I hope my leave-in conditioner is good enough as heat protection.

Today I just gently blow dried my hair nearly dry with my head flipped over until it was nearly dry and of course overloaded with leave-in and then I gently blow dried the crown around the round brush. It looks pretty good in a youthful classic way and I think it takes years off my face.

Adele, that cut is lovely, and the great thing about it is, is that if you do feel its a tad on the short side, it wouldn't take ages to grow back! I recently decided to go a bit crazy and have a 'Audrey' do...oh my lord, the lad that cut my hair cut it so short that I cannot do a thing with it! He thought it was rather funky, I nodded, smiled...I paid the £55 and quickly rushed home and bawled my eyes out! Thank heavens for wigs and wonderful friends that dont laugh at a silly haircut lol

I too always do the "stuck in a rut drastic hair style change" and after recently being d-u-m-p-e-d i told my hair stylist, which happens to be my sister that i wanted to CHANGE IT UP! She said no, that i would regret chopping my hair off. So, she made me wait, and am I glad i did! I didn't change it too much, i went with some layers around my face and grew out my bettie bangs...i'm tempted to bring those back though, but with my longer ones, i can do a modern look with them down or a more vintage one if i sweep them to the side. I was originally going for the Anne Hathaway haircut in The Devil Wears Prada, after her makeover. I haven't tried any roller sets or anything but i will soon. I still am trying to get motivated to want to give a crap. [huh]

Ooo, I wish i'd have waited! This'll take me years to grow out! (okay, so Im being melodramatic, I know) Its great that you can have such a versatile hairstyle though *Martini*Time*, Im a tad jealous looking at everyone's gorgeous hairstyles. You think your sister will head over to the UK to sort mine out for me?!

Haha! It was worth waiting, it won't take years to grow out, my hair grows insanely fast. I cut my hair from just about nipple length (i know...nipple but it's where it was!) to collarbone in april and it's grown almost half back now. I am going to try a hot roller set this coming weekend and see how it turns out. or maybe for new years...if i can get a date!

I'm sure you'll look fab. You better take pictures!

I'll try it this weekend. I got nothing else to do. I did diffuse my hair this morning and the shorter layers curled up quite nice, but the longer ones i think were too heavy. they just kind of fuzzed. I'm wearing a hat now.
