I think only collectors value the FF. I'm with you, I'd rather have it be counted. The one time that I feel I was really ripped off was a FF. The back bodice and two different collars were missing. It's unusable.Lady Day said:I got a question for you ladies, how important is a factory fold to you?
Granted, most of us buy patterns to make clothes, but I cant *tell* you how many FFs Ive opened to find a piece missing! I prefer if the pieces have been used and counted as opposed to unused and uncounted. I mean, they are not comic books, where you run little risk of having a missing page
But I do understand that desire to be the first one at that pattern. Its cool.

The center top Butterick skirt is fabulous! I love the top right dress and can't wait to see it made up. I've stayed away from the straighter styles like that because I'm not sure it will look good on a fuller figure. When I see something on you, I know I can probably wear it, too.

I prefer a factory fold. The patterns I've gotten that didn't have FF often did had tape, pins, alterations, rips and were just generally more fragile. I wouldn't turn down a pattern that wasn't FF, though. If I see something fabulous, I'll take it however I can get it.
LadyDay - I have that Simplicity pyjama pattern on the top left! I do hope you make it up. I'd love to see how it turns out.

I've been a bit naughty lately... but here's a few patterns I recently picked up.
From New Vintage Lady. I picture this in floaty cotton prints for summer.
From an etsy seller who had some vintage wallpaper borders I had my eye on. It was $5, how could I resist? [huh] Love the wide waistband on the dress.
And this one from Ebay. I loved the draping and gathering.

Lauren I love this pattern. I want to imitate the girls on the cover, they look so cool.
So I was browsing the internet for images of vintage sewing machines..and this blog popped up.
I think she is very crafty and talented, but I found a post she made about "Vintage Holiday Wrapping Ideas", she has some really cute ideas...but this kind of made me cringe...I hope it's like some nasty 80's patterns she used for this project.
sorry that the picture is so huge, I don't know how to change it...but I guess it helps to get a close up view of the pattern?

Just inherited a collection from my grandmother. Luckily most of them are actually my size! Lots of 40s day dresses and full-skirted 50s styles. Here's a few of the more interesting ones:
Upper left dated 1937
Lower left dated 1947
Has anyone ever done a style similar to the lower two with the drapey skirt? Does this work in cotton (as I'm guessing they would have used then)? Or should I go for a poly or rayon blend?

What does the back of the pattern say? They nearly always offered fabric suggestions. Id go for a silk or a rayon personally.

This just came today!
It's a 50's pattern from the McCall's American Decorator series. It calls for a valance board, which looks easy enough to install...but I'd have to mount the brackets in our 100 year old plaster walls. Hmmm...this will need some thought.
I also broke down and bought a repro of everybody's favorite (and not so fav after reading the thread) Butterick 4790.

The muslin for this one is looking fantastic! Can't wait to start on the fashion fabric!
I am so in love with this skirt and blouse! My only concern is they show the buttons matching the skirt, which looks nice, but then you wouldn't be able to wear the blouse with a different skirt.
