For the mere sum of 10 U.S. dollars I purchased this vintage, (1930's) 16 mm movie projector. In perfect working order with operating instructions. Now all I need is some films. :)

What a joy..but where to find 16mm?

Nice find. We hat a Keystone 8mm movie projector, my dad had it. I think my brother now has it. It played ALL our beautiful home movies from the 50's thru the 70's. Then the technology began to change.

I recall, my brother and I wanted to watch the old films, and the bulb was burned out. We found one at the local camera store, and it was a whopping price. I don't remember what, but it was a heck of a lot for a couple of teenage boys to afford.

The bulbs burned very bright, and the heat..well there was a lot of it. The machine gave the "click cick click ety click click" sound, with the track you put the film in, and the length of the "loop" between the feed, reels, and take up.

They were great machines. Still are. Ours looked Exactly like yours, but it was 8mm.

...a projector, newer than that one, and went to the 'Bay to look for films. If you're interested in cartoons -- as I am -- you're in luck. I haven't looked in the past few months, but six months to a year ago they were fairly prevalent.

The portions of old projectors that most commonly go blooey (that's the technical term) are the bulbs and the drive belts. My grandmother has been using big rubber bands instead of belts for more than 20 years when she shows old home movies. I'd suggest, if you can find a vendor for bulbs, getting three or four of them, assuming you plan to use that thing.

Congratulations on your find! Actually projecting a movie is, for me, a visceral experience: It's much more satisfying than simply pushing Play on a DVD player, from a hands-on standpoint.

Any strange old toon or whatever would be fun to watch on this thing. :) The "belts" on this one are actually springs, but if need be I think a rubber band of the proper length would suffice. The bulb is a 120 watt GE "toy projection bulb" and has the standard screw in base. Only differance is that the bulb is clear and not frosted like a household lamp bulb. Just a fun thing to own in any event, and was fun finding it. :)

Great find...hopefully you'll be able to use it although even as a display piece it's lovely. As much as I like all the bells and whistles on DVDs I would gladly exchange them for the same movies on actual film. There's nothing like the sound of film running through the gate...needing a darkened room...for me it's more like some religious experience than just watching a video. Long live film!

NO Dolby surround either.

Another added, (or more properly, subtracted) dimension with this is that there is no sound.

I think I will try to get some silent comedies to watch, and put my own music to the films, The Talking Heads, Pink Floyd,.....just about anything would do I think. lol

I saw the bare bones of one of these very projectors in an antique store in Fayetteville, TN this past weekend. Sad sight indeed, and THEY were asking $45 for the scrap![huh]

There are two on ebay right now that appear servicable.
Just do a search for this type projector,(you know what to do) and you will find them but act fast.
There's one for $19.99 opening bid,comes with a film,.......no bids as of this post.
