You whine to the point of being a 4th grader that you are not included in the atavist terminology discussion, and then take offense when someone calls you out on it. And now because its convenient for you to not want to be called something you advocated for for PAGES in this thread, they are misanthropes?

And before your fake outrage come spewing on my post, and I know it will, because its your first reaction, seriously, genuinely, take a breath, give the photobucket search engine a rest of senseless and pointless images to covey whatever 'point' you think might be making, and regroup.

How about instead of turning every thread you reply in (Id say contribute to, but that is a stretch) a sub discussion about you, you actually listen to what people are saying and THEN, maybe, perhaps, offer some sort of sensible contribution.

The dude, however, did propose that "misanthropy" would be found for her in a thread which as far as any of the rest of us participating in it were concerned, contained no such thing. Obviously someone is determined to keep grinding their axe, even though the rest of us have moved on. That's not behavior we smile on here.

Blues may be styling himself as Devil's Advocate, and then again he may well be absolutely sincere.

In either case it seems to me that his postings in this thread have been most useful, for it is apparent that he has no qualms in pointing out the sartorial ABSENCE of any given monarch.;)

He is obviously a thoughtful fellow of no mean intelligence, one who is at least somewhat familiar with the phenomenon under discussion here.

I suspect he might be a trifle more sympathetic to our position than the average member of the Hoi Polloi.

Even so, some of his postings in this thread come across as supercilious and not entirely supportive.

The point of the thread was to coin a descriptive word or phrase, one that might assist those unfamiliar with the phenomenon to place us into a tidy, presumably unthreatening category, and then let us get about our business.

All well and good.

In doing so we must realise that there will always be those little minds who sneer at, or even find themselves threatened by our choices.

Believe me some of these beknighted folks will be less pleasant about it than Carlisle Blues' has been in his comments, which if taken in the right spirit (whether or not they were intended in such a spirit being entirely immaterial) can only lead us to ponder the effect of the use of this label on the unthinking public.

If you look at it this way, are not his posts a very useful contribution indeed?

No class stratification here, only descriptions of type of involvement. Category of atavism, category of great interest and expertise, category of loose interest. If I meant the chart to indicate greatness vs badness wouldn't I have put myself in the top category? I didn't. I put myself in the middle category. This is explicit in my posts. I am not a lifestyler (the category listed as a.)) And there is nothing low-class with being a weekend occasional vintage dresser (the category listed as c.) -- if those people were not welcome, then events would be pretty empty.

Very eloquently put LizzieMaine ... a Venn diagram showing overlaps rather than heirarchy will work much better ... in my view a much more inclusive and accommodating description... not sure venn diagrams are even taught anymore so that shows our collective aesthetic...

No criticism meant or implied Doran .. I admire what you are doing, I was offerring a view of what I have seen of what happens when less well judged individuals than yourself see labels and categories. Your well-judged descriptive characteristics may be reduced to a lesser form later by less well-equipped observers seeking the lowest common denominator. I meant no ill; just suggesting stratification is not the best way forward and LizzieMaine has provided a valid workable alternative.

Actually you are right. People will take it the wrong way if it is a list.
