AArons is gone.

That is too bad. I only live an hour from there and was planning a trip up. Times are tough in Maine and New Hampshire. I have seen many a good business close this year. :cool2: :cool2: :cool2: :cool2:

We are still very much in business. The phones were not working for two days (I hate Verizon). Everything is back to normal. I wish Aarons had a phone number to reach him .

I feel bad for Aaron but unfontunately I knew it was coming . I had heard rumors from salesman last year that things werent good. I guess things never picked up after Christmas. It is very hard to have a decent business in hats todays without a good walk in trade. Relying on the internet today will not work.

The Hat Lounge brick and mortar store here in Durham http://www.hatlounge.com/ is opening a new store in Raleigh just today.

Interesting that Raleigh is on the CNN census list as one of America's 10 fastest growing cities.

On a more joyous note I have returned to work after a full knee replacement and I noticed on a walk uptown that Strand Hatters has just refurbed their iconic Strand Arcade shop with a nice old "haberdasher" (in the US sense) redecoration.

I called your store everyday last week and never got an answer. I called yesterday (Sunday) and today (Monday). Have been trying to buy a hat. Look up Merrill Guice in your store records (I'm in there) and call me!

The hat business is indeed a tough business to be in . Unless you specialize in a specific group of people such as western or the Orthodox jewish market , it will be tough. Most major cities such as Chicago, Detroit, St Louis have only one hat store and that is all that is needed. In New York , we have a few stores but I think there will only be one left (JJ's) in a couple of years.

Hi Besdor! I am from NYC and am looking to buy a new fedora. I only own two (both hand me downs) and really would like to purchase a new one. I was wondering if you could recommend any hat stores in NYC that would carry a large and great selection of fedoras?

marvelgoose, I suspect that Bencraft was closed for the duration of the more-than-week-long Passover holiday, being an Orthodox Jewish establishment. Today's the last day, so answers should be forthcoming soon.

Sorry to see Aaron Hats go. It was on my monthly trek north. I hope that his online store succeeds and will miss purchasing hats at his store.

Ahhh, here in South Georgia we have very few Jews. In fact, I didn't even meet a Jew face to face until I was in College. Needless to say, this is the first time I have ever heard of the holiday running more than seven days.

They should warn us hicks with a note on the website!

Thanks for filling me in.

I personally love finding a hat store to go into and try on hats. Buying on line is what we are reduced to in this day and age. I can’t tell you how much money I have spent on returned shipping when your hat is delivered and it doesn’t fit properly or it’s not the color you thought it would be or it just doesn’t look good on you..
Sorry to see another shop closing it’s doors.

All my hats were purchased new. I can't tell you how much money I have dished out on shipping back and forth because the style didn't look right, or there was a problem with a size.. sadly, each brand hat seems to vary in their idea of "large" or 7 1/4... or each hat varies in how loose or snug those sizes will be. It's so frustrating. I could probably buy three hats with what I've spent on shipping.

Also.. so many online stores rarely update their merchandise. Website I have been looking at for years offer the SAME inventory.. never introducing anything new.

Oh well... the prices we pay for our hats! I wish Aaron all the best.. as well as all the other stores out there!

Sadly, I believe that you have the handle on the market.

About two weeks ago I was looking at some brim flanges on their website. Now that I decided to buy one or two of them, the shop is gone... :(

The only other shop that is selling flanges online (that I know of) belongs to a certain individual that's no longer discussed around here...
