So, do you wear Sunscreen?

I do on hot days in the Summer, though sparingly. I never wear short trousers and only when it would otherwise really be unbearable will I go out without my arms covered (I have even been known to wear cotton gloves to keep my hands from being exposed to the Sun). I utterly loathe tanning on me - partly there the damage that the Sun does to the skin by aging it, but also..... if I tan at all, I simply look dirty. Like I've been playing in the mud and not washed for a few days..... So not a good look. The height of it, unless my arms are exposed, is using it on the back of my neck. I tend to avoid the face, at least above my eyes, as otherwise no matter what I do I sweat it into my eyes and it stings like billy-o. In any case, I never now leave the house without a hat, and on hotter days I make sure it's brimmed. Given I struggle with tmperatures much above 25C, July and August or whenver it is hottest I simply avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary. I have considered, though always discounted on practical grounds, gonig nocturnal for the Summer months.

I really need to, as I've had pre-cancerous cells removed from my cheek, but I'm allergic to it. My skins burns and I get red bumps where ever it's applied. Anyone else allergic to regular sunscreen? Have you found anything that works?

kamikat, I am too, and I find I do a lot better with non-cream sunscreens. Target's Up & Up Kids Spray Suncreen SPF 50 hasn't gotten me yet, and I think it's the first time an SPF that high hasn't gotten me all rashy in a day.

I can't put it on my face, but I have a good SPF moisturizer that doesn't do anything bad yet. I usually react on my chest and arms, and I still have no idea what causes it, so I can't even tell you if we have the same problem...

This is what I use. it is made by the company that makes my skin lightener cream. abit of warning though, after I apply it, it does leave my face very shiny! not oily just shine. its an excellent base for my coty airspun loose face powder that I apply

I've been admonished by my doctor, doctor on-call, and dermatologist for overprotecting myself. I'm not getting enough UV rays and that's why my skin is suffering terribly and I'm not getting enough D vitamins so I'm also taking supplements for that. I only began to wear spf8 on my face this week. I won't go higher than to spf15 in summer. I'll go for a walk before noon each day before applying sun screen when it gets warmer.

I avoid the sun as much as possible and have to take a prescription vitamin D. Not only does covering up and wearing sunscreen block your D, but people with hypothyroidism can't make D as efficiently.

Pretty much a must here in Australia (if you plan of hanging out in the sun for long) as we have a really high UV index. Everyone wears 30+ if they go to the beach here. My foundation has a 15+ suncreen in it anyway which is good.

I go very brown if I lay out in the sun, but I have chosen not to for the last 15 years. Sun exposure just makes you look old before your time....especially faces. I am lucky to look young fro my age, but it has a lot to do with protecting my skin.

The sun seems so much gentler here than it was in Oz, that I have become a bit slack. I won't put it on my arms any more if I am just walking to and from the station, but I usually have it on my face, and definitely if I am gardening or doing anything outdoors for more than about half an hour. Once you've seen a few old Queenslanders with missing ears and noses, it makes you a bit paranoid about skin cancer! On my body I usually use the ones from the Cancer Council shops in Australia (although that is about to hit its best before date, so I need to find something else) and on my face I use SunSense Daily Face Matte 50+.

I'm Black American, my skin shade is like a caramel brown, but I wear sunscreen in the summer not too much in the winter but I am going to force myself to do it. I wear Hawaiian Tropic SPF30, I can't go any higher because it feels like molasses on my skin if I do. I am 35 years old and have no wrinkles, I get compliments on my skin all the time. My grandmother was in her 80s when she died and had no wrinkles as well. I attribute my good skin to genes, drinking plenty of water, eating almonds daily, exercise and using oils on my face at night.

I guess I am the odd ball here. I never wear sunscreen! I'm to chicken after reading that the micronized particles in the sunscreen cause skin cancer. Plus I need the vitamin D.lol

My skin reacts to regular sunscreen too, so I tend to wear hats if it's sunny (I live in Australia and the sun is horribly fierce, so I wear hats alot). Zinc cream is pretty good though, I've also tried clear zinc & although it feels "heavy" on my skin I don't react to it.

SugarKitten, Neutrogena makes a sunblock for sensitive skin...it's very light, not at all oily, and works effectively. I've had good luck with it, even on my face.

It seems like you get skin cancer if you do and you get skin cancer if you don't and I need my D's so I'm going for a happy medium and just doing as the docs tell me to do! I don't like being yelled at.

I'm vain so I'm afraid to go completely without sun screen at any time from April-May through Sept. Well, for someone of a medium complexion there isn't much to be afraid of in Denmark right now.

My face creams all have some type of sun screen which is good enough for 8-9 months of the year.

I only have mimic lines but I'm not sure I'd want to be completely without them. Can't change my "nature" either.

My uncle was in the same boat. He was able to wear my Olay sunscreen without problems.

I like the idea of getting enough vitamin D, but this Colorado sun roasts me if I don't wear sunscreen.

I use a strong La Roche-Posay SPF50 only in spring and summer and try to protect my face from sun as much as possible. Apart from that I wear foundation with SPF15 all year round.
I am quite pale naturally but then again I get this brown tone that I hate so easily!

I do wear sun block..sometimes as high as 50. I'm very pale and burn quickly, sometimes in less than 10 minutes!

On the highest UV days, I use a parasol. I've been using it a lot lately. A man the other day asked me 'are you expecting rain?' *lol* No..just don't want to burn.

I, however, hate the feeling of goopy thick sunblocks. I hate it when my skin feels like it can't breathe. I have a number of products I alternate between.

Any recommendations? Just saw there are already recommendations...shall try some of them and report. ;0

I find its impossible to get a high factor sunblock that isn't gloopy and makes me sticky all day, especially because I like to re-apply often.

Has anyone tried the spray on sunblocks? For some reason I feel like they wouldn't work, but they are supposed to be less sticky.
