Can any of our car enthusiasts ID the car in this pic? It was on viewlinerltd.blogspot.com this week and I fell in love! Must have one someday!

Looks about right. The 1948 Ford was my other choice, but I think the badge and wavier grille clinches it.

Actually, the Chevrolet Station Wagon in LocktownDog's picture is a 1947. Note the slight difference in the emblem on the front of the hood and the fact that Dinerman's correctly captioned 1948 model also has a vertical center bar in the grille that's not present on the 1947 model.

These cars were everyday transportation when I was a kid in the 1950s.

The car in the first picture is a 1947 Chevrolet Station Wagon. The second picture is a 1948 Chevrolet Station Wagon. Basically, the only difference between the two models is the 1948 grill had a bar down the center of the grill. The 47's didn't have that bar. You can see the difference in the grill in the two pictures. When I was in highschool my Dad had a 1947 Chevy Station Wagon. They were HIGH maintenance as the wood body parts, both inside and outside, had to be frequently polished to keep it looking good (or even decent). It was best to not ever let them get rained on, but not practical as we lived on a farm, and it rained a lot.

Can anyone idintify these two old cars?

I have a couple old family photos that I need help identifying the cars pictured. First, I know this is an 88 Olds. The tag is a 1954 tag, but what year is this car? The first photo is a side view (that's my aunt Sara standing beside the car) and the second view was taken from the rear of the car.

The other car I need help identifying is this one. This photo was taken at Daytona Beach on a trip my parents took one summer. I can't make out the date on the tag, but I think the photo was taken sometime between 1947 and 1952.

Big Man,
Aunt Sara is standing with a fine looking 1953 Oldsmobile Rocket 88.
I'm looking up the other one, it looks like a Chevy Fleetline though.

The folks are posed with a Chevy Fleetline Deluxe 4 door sedan. I can't exactly tell if it's a '50 or '51 without any front end shots.

This is as close as I can get to a "front end shot" of the Chevy. This picture was taken on the same trip as the one in my earlier post. My folks and another couple were in St. Augustine, FL when this photo was taken. I still can't make out the date on the tag, but (on the original photo) it looks more like 1950 than '51 or '52).

Sorry my friend, that all the intel I have. The front grilles changed from year to year, but the backend is the same for both those years due to that chopped off back door window corner from what I've dug up. Not 100%...[huh]

Cool ride tho, check out those wiiiiidddeeee whites!

I can barely remember that Chevy (I was born in 1955). It belonged to my aunt Hazel (my Dad's older sister). It was a new car and she let my Dad and Mom borrow it to take on their trip to Florida that year.

When I was little, my aunt used to ride me around Lake James in that old car to put me to sleep. I can still remember the gray seat covers and the grab handles along the roof line. My aunt traded that old Chevy in for a new 1961 Chevy Bel Air. When my aunt stopped driving, the '61 was given to my sister. My sister still has that car, but hasn't driven it in years and years. I've tried to get it from her, but no go. :rage: Most times I wish I was an only child.

I did, however, get my aunt Sara's '65 Ford Custom 500, and still drive it once or twice a week. :eusa_clap That old Ford is a really nice ride.

Chevy fleetlines are a design classic. Even the four doors flow nicely IMHO

Hello Big Man:

The Chevy Fleetline Sedan is a 1949 model. The '49 and '50 Chevrolets are similar from the rear except for the emblem on the decklid.

Just for the record, the '51 and '52 Chevrolets are quite different from the '49-'50 models having different rear fenders and taillamps as well as different decklid emblems.

It's interesting...to our eyes today, the Chevy Fleetline fastbacks look so sleek and desirable...much better than the Styleline models that had notchback styling with well defined trunks.

But back when these cars were new, it was just the opposite...the Styleline models were far more popular. I suspect it was because fastback bodystyles had run their course (they were introduced in the late 1930s) and the notchbacks simply looked newer to the people of 1949.

Chevrolet dropped the Fleetline after the 1952 model run. Fastbacks didn't return to Chevrolet until 1963 with the Corvette Stingray. And that started the fastback trend all over again.

Thanks for the detailed information on the Chevy. That car belonged to my aunt Hazel. I recall my Dad telling me he thought it was a '47 (so his memory wasn't too far off if it was a '49). At the time that photo was taken, my Dad and Mom didn't own a car, so they borrowed my aunt's (Dad's sister) car to take on their trip to Florida.

Thanks for all the information on the previous two old car questions I had. Just to follow up a bit, while going through some old papers today I found some receipts and a registration card for a 1949 Chevy Fleetline 4-door sedan. So I guess that answers for sure the question about the year of the car.

With that "mystery" solved, I have another favor to ask the experts here. I know it's not much to go on, but would anyone have an idea of the model and year of the Olds in the picture below? I know it's not the same car as my previous question (the '53 Olds 88). That's my Dad with the car, but I have no clue as to the year. I know he traded his '53 for a '55 Olds 98, and that this picture is not of the '55 Olds. Could it be a car earlier than the '53?

That has to be a 55 Olds. That style wrap around windshield was only on 55s and 56s and the body side trim is
not from a 56.
