Which ribbon treatment do you like better on this hat?

On their own, I like each one a lot. I like the thin ribbon a little more, but it all depends on which looks better on your noggin.

You know I like the thin ribbon!
But if you go a little wider why not try

I think the bound edge would look great with a ribbon like that.

Split the difference

I have a wide ribbon on my Camp Draft:

but in your case I think a ribbon somewhere between the thin and wide range would work really well, like the ribbon on this Knox:

Agreed, I love wide ribbons but the one Razzman's contemplating just seems too big for the hat.

I've got to agree that going somewhere inbetween would be better. Of those two, I like the thin better. The wide looks a bit too wide for the hat to my eyes.

I usually prefer the wider ribbon, but on that hat I like the thin one. Perhaps it's because I know that that's the original. Both look great, though.

I agree about the thin ribbon. A wider ribbon up to about 3/4 inch would still keep it in balance IMO. This is my VS Blue Smoke w/ 2 3/8" brim.

Keep it the same....

The wide ribbon would look nice, but the example you show has two problems in my opinion:

#1 The color is wrong. You have a bound edge, and the colors should match. If you went wide, then I would send the hat to Art or Optimo to have the edge ribbon replaced to match the crown band.

#2 The ribbon you show (wide) is a bit too tall) and I would go with a slightly thinner one. The color in your photo may make it look larger against the hat body color.

I have had the pleasure of spending many hours with Art watching him work his magic. I used to be allowed to rummage through his huge collection of vintage ribbon colors and put them against the hat he was making for me. We would give thumbs up or thumbs down, until finding the perfect match. Often, Art had the gift of finding some color which was unique and different from the standard colors everyone else was using. You can see that in his hats today, his clever, "Art" - full use of good taste in selecting just the perfect color.

For your hat, I would just leave the ribbon alone and enjoy it for what it is.

Thanks for the all the input gentlemen. As a few people pointed out, the ribbon does seem a bit large (tall) for the hat. The color of the ribbon is darker than it should be. I'll probably leave the hat as is for now. I just wanted to get a feel for how it would look with a wider ribbon. I agree with everyone that the ribbon should be about one inch and should match the brim ribbon. Again thanks.

I agree

I think that Andykev hit the nail on the head. I'll take a wide over thin any day, just no too wide.

Argyle socks

I'd leave well enough alone in this situation, however.

I don't think a ribbon has to match the binding. You could just match the ribbon to your socks, or your socks to the binding or whatever.

Hey, look what happens around here when somebody mentions Whippet or Gay Blade (snicker lol)...Sorry... this place starts cackling like a hen house.

Just make sure your socks match so you don't embarrass the women in your family. ;)

Socks don't need to match as long as at least one of them is a really bright color.
