Cole, I love all of the ideas for your wedding, the dresses , umbrellas, cake and everything. It kinda makes me wish I was getting married. I guess I'll just have to throw a huge vintage inspired party instead.

Amanda from ruffled.com did a post on Old Hollywood dresses a little while ago.

The featured designer is from here in Australia, but maybe you will see something to inspire you.

The dress I am wearing to my wedding in Melbourne (as opposed to the Brisbane wedding mentioned above) is art deco styled, but I don't have a pic to put here.

Good luck finding something you like!

These are new - but many are very cute vintage 50s styled.

Or Whirling Turban can do a great custom dress that just screams Vegas Wedding to me.

I think I am going with a more 30s hollywood style and have found a few reasonable ones by the current designers Casa Blanca and Mori Lee. Off to try them on though in a few weeks. I have a 50s never worn off white with petal pink bust (below) that I am going to wear for my rehearsal dinner. I'm going to have to unfortunately alter the back unless I manage to get all the weight off I want.

Cole what a gorgeous wedding!!!

*sniffle* I appear to have something in my eye!

What's the song? And dear gawd please tell me where your shoes came from??

Thanks! The song is We Are Man and Wife by Michelle Featherstone (I hadn't heard until the slideshow either, but I love it!). The shoes were from My Vintage Sole and one of the most comfortable pairs of heels I've ever owned!

thanks, ladies! i pieced the outfit together over a year...the dress was a repro by stopstaring! that i thought was just darling for a city hall marriage, the shoes and foundations i had, the hat was an ebay buy but i had to replace the netting (old) so i took it to my girlfriend who is head of the UC Berkeley costume dept and she dolled it right up with some new french lace for me. :) i was pleased overall but by then i had cut my curly BOB (i gotta start using that term since apparently curly ass hair CAN be a bob, haha) so my hair wasn't exactly what i wanted it to be (i was sporting a skinbyrd hairdo then). my husband is all 60s soul/mod/skinhead (no, not the white supremacist kind) so his suit was vintage 60s.

i forgot to include my most beloved piece...the ring

oh I wish I'd heard of the lounge in 1999 when I got married. We were reaching then for a 40's feel for our wedding, more a feel than authentic though. My hair was fingerwaved (not exactly to my satisfaction). Lets see if I can get this pic attachment to work.

I'm getting married next fall (2011) and I plan to have a 40s feel to the wedding. Since we already got married (just the pastor and us) last week, we're having a big celebration next year for friends and family. And since hubby will be going to school full-time starting this month, money is tight, so hopefully, waiting until next year will give us time to save money and do things on a budget. No need to have student loan debt AND wedding debt!

*sigh* all of you ladies have such wonderful ideas and beautiful dresses!
AmateisGal: that's such a great idea and I think 40's is ideal because you can have so much fun whether on a budget or not. I totally agree with you about wedding debt! My budget has been blown out of the water but my fiance is a groomzilla and his parents are so excited that cost isn't really factoring in. We are very, very lucky. That said, we're going for a more classic feel rather than any specific time period. It's a classic New England inn, we have a jazz/swing band, etc. It's on Halloween which is enough fun and funky for us, hahaha!
Part of me wishes I was as brave as Chicanoir and could pull off such a beautiful look!

I think we'll probably have a more classical feel with touches of vintage. And I hope to get some kind of jazz/swing band, too! I desperately wanted a true vintage ring, though, and I got my wish - found a late 1940s bridal set that is just gorgeous and in near-perfect condition. I just have to get it sized!

It really can be done on a budget, everyone knows money is tight right now. I think if you have the time to search online, and in thrift shops for table centres etc you can have a really different day that everyone will remember for a long time.
I recently got engaged and we have attended some weddings in the last year. One cost the happy couple over £28k and it was nothing special, just a hotel do with a sit down meal. Instantly forgettable.
We're planning a small ceremony, close friends only and have found an amazing barn which we will use for an evening party.

We aren't having a vintage wedding in the purest sense, but there are definate vintage touches (awesome venue-a firehouse that was built in 1914) coupled with the best offerings of the modern world (shuttling guests with pedicabs).

We started this whole endeavor off right, since he popped the question with his great-grandma's ring, which his great grandpa picked out in 1915 (great grandpa had fabulous taste.)

We are trying to keep this at less than 5K. My parents tried to give me a higher budget, but I talked them into letting us "keep the change" if we put it towards our first house which makes more fiscal sense to me.

While I COULD get away with having a purely vintage wedding (he keeps telling me he wants whatever I want), I am much happier having a wedding that reflects US rather than ME...if that makes any sense.:)

Makes TOTAL sense. While my hubby likes certain aspects of vintage, he's more comfortable in the modern world. Thus, we'll just add some nice touches here and there (though he is very keen on the idea of having a swing/jazz band so we swing dance the night away!).
