Looks like it was made in Germany under license from Stetson. I believe Mayser once held the license. Maybe @mayserwegener will shine some light on this: he is THE MAN when it comes to German hats. It might take him a few days to get back to you.
I think I saw that hat recently for sale. It could be a hat made by a foreign company under license from Stetson. Are there any other markings on the sweatband? Can you provide clearer photos? It would also be helpful if you could fold the leather sweatband down and look for labels glued to...
Steaming and brushing really helped the felt. Oddly, I no longer see the slight blotchiness that I thought was an issue with color saturation. The hand still isn’t as nice as my other nutria Gannons or any of his beaver felts, but it’s still completely acceptable.

I think it was a symptom on it’s time. It was made with the hopes “someone” would buy it rather than to fill a need or to give the public what it was asking for.
