I measure like this:
https://www.vintageleatherjackets.org/threads/how-to-measure-a-jacket-correctly-tutorial.15194/
EDIT: The above pic is from the tutorial, not my jacket....
If you are getting into a 46, I can't 100% guarantee that the shoulders won't be a bit snug. I'm pretty much a dead-on 44R, and it's quite comfortable.
These A-2's were authorized and designed in Japan some years back by Robert K. Morgan (Pilot of the Memphis Belle), and his wife, Linda. They...
I believe the pattern would work for you in the shoulders, and should be a comfortable fit if you generally wear a 44 R.. The one I still have fits me quite well, except for the sleeve length being a bit long. I have a new set of knits for it, but haven't gotten around to getting it done...
I regretted selling this one, and shortly afterward, purchased the last size 44 that Linda Morgan had at the time. The measurements are:
Pit-Pit: 23.5"
Shoulders: 19"
Back Length: 25"
Sleeves (a bit long, plan on shortening): 26.5"
Since this post however, the absolute best bargain out there...
I've been struggling to find a decent day with good lighting since this jacket arrived, but I am wearing it today, and just grabbed the best pics I could.
This jacket was made by the J.A. Dubow MFG Company out of Greece. Many who have been here for awhile may know of the owner, Platon, who was...
Finally, some cooler temps this morning. :) Wearing my new made-to-measure 'Waldo Pepper' jacket in goat. It's a bit overcast, but these pics give an idea of the overall look and fit (my requested measurements were all precisely followed).
This project gets more interesting around every curve.. While researching, I came-across an early 1930's photo of 'Hap' Arnold and Bebe Daniels. To the left is an (assumed) officer wearing a button pocket-flap leather flight jacket. The dating was narrowed-down to the fall of 1932, which makes...
Looks like I was mistaken... Bison Trading LTD. out of Canada is offering the Goldsmith as well:

Horses for courses... :);) I've been enjoying Limited Editions of various collectibles for years. I think the significance of the original 25 jackets, and Aero limiting the run to that amount a fitting commemoration, and as previously mentioned, may open the door for Aero to conduct other...
Kind of redundant since Aero clearly mentions it in their listing don't you think?: ;)
EDIT: I will add that regardless of who, ANY maker out there will only be able to offer their 'interpretation' of the Goldsmith... As both Aero, and myself has pointed out, NO surviving example has surfaced...
This is Aero Leather's take on the Goldsmith. Quite a few features are different on the Goldsmith than Aero's usual A-2 construction techniques, and they are indeed bringing something new to the table. Aero goes on to say:
I find it poor-form for another jacket maker to come into a thread...
It was interesting to me as well. I've always been of the opinion that if motivated, Aero has the full weight of their talented craftsfolks, and established business behind them to be highly successful in actual contract military jacket repros. It just has not been their focus.
I'm sure that...
LOL!.. I was following the above linked VLJ thread with interest, and then Ken had to go and show the sample / announce the sale! BOOM!! I was immediately checking through my finances to see if I could possibly make this work. :po_O
The Battered Steer is amazing stuff, and I was going to stick...
It all started as a well-researched thread discussing early A-2's with button pocket flaps at VLJ. Ken was participating along with others interested, and involved. Photos, keen eyes, and the process of elimination sniffed-out the 'likely' discovery of the Goldsmith A-2. There still is no...
This Strictly Limited Edition of 25 peaked my interest enough coming from Aero to get my order in for one in Vicenza Russet HH... IMO, this jacket is a welcome departure from their usual military jacket lineup. More of an event really, something along the lines of what one would expect...
I was surprised to see no mention of this jacket here since the sale opened on 8/23/2018:

THE P. GOLDSMITH AC 31-1897 THE FIRST TYPE A-2
THE GOLDSMITH AC Order 31-1897 THE FIRST TYPE A-2
COLLECTOR’S ITEM
LIMITED EDITION OF 25...
Winner, winner, chicken dinner!! :D:cool: The first Dubow repro has landed. I can't wait to lay my hands on the seal brown I have ordered next month... Then, another one in russet (already socking some $$ away) ;).... To sum it up in one word..... OUTSTANDING...
Noted... ;) I'll ride the wheel on the chance that at least the first few runs will be extremely detailed Dubows of that contract in nice HH (supposedly Vicenza), and fit relatively well. Perception of these repros at various forums when reviewed, and pride is riding on it.. :) As long as I have...
Personally, I don't give a damn who is making it. If one is getting an accurately patterned, actual contract A-2 repro of good quality HH, it's a STEAL for under $600.00 USD shipped. TOTALLY blows any of the nicely done 'budget' Asian (or anywhere else for that matter) A-2's I've found...
