Denim Jackets - New or Vintage

Yep, nice score! ! I was one of those kids and still have a huge collection of the brand stuff. They were high end clothes and still today this worn trucker weighs twice as much as other recent brand truckers I own.

    The phenomenon of shrinking/expanding jackets

I buy and work leather for my projects and I have a shirt with some snake leather inserts. Last time I washed it in too hot water and the Snake shrinked so much it wrinkled the fabric. Now I fixed it ironing it with steam too but yes, water and heat can have that effect. But it also depends a...

Denim Jackets - New or Vintage

My quest for the perfect (for me) denim jacket goes on. Another vintage one from the 80's end. They are the right length, just covering the belt, and not like the ones made these days for very elongated skeletons (do such beings even exists?)

What would you tell your former self about ordering a custom Aero?

that's a standard rule in sartorial world and one of the biggest differences between RTW and bespoke suits or jackets. Bespoke jackets have the smallest possible armholes. This way you will not carry up the jacket body when you move your arms.

Friends of the good old leather-belts!

I have made several belts, always starting from the hide cut by hand (I'll post some pictures later). This time I wanted to try something new. Thanks.

Friends of the good old leather-belts!

Not sure if I already posted it but here the belt I made for my old, sandcast, silver Navajo buckle. Made from thick cow leather.

Denim Jackets - New or Vintage

Thanks, it is a real leap in to the past for me. I got the Sherpa by a friend. His father was a major reseller of the brand and he still has several jeans, jacket or belts new with tags. The jacket is unworn, my friend washed it before shipping only because it has been stored for almost 40...

Denim Jackets - New or Vintage

Just to share my new score. This is the same Sherpa I spent several winters in 35 years ago. It was made by an Italian brand now out of market (very famous and costly back then and still is on the second hand market). I was lucky to find a new one from an old stock. I guess we can call it nostalgia.

    Help: Italian Tanneries

Hi regius I am sorry but I don't know the specific tannery. We have quiet a number scattered all over here (quiet some good ones in the Tuscany's working horse hide) with many being small family businesses too. But I don't have the specific answer.

Irregularities in leather - what's acceptable and what's not?

Such jackets are handicraft but very close to art. Since old times (and still to these days) Native artists always add some minor mistakes to their artworks 'cause they say: "only god can create a perfect thing". Those are not errors but the jacket's soul.

    A-1

I keep saying Thedi is the brand sporting more personality actually. Looks like he moves straight from very traditional patterns adding his own view.

Seems to me close enough to the one Thedy Leather makes (see also the ongoing thread).

    soaking Shinki horsehide in water

Please: just read the video title. The guy is making a Sid Vicious's jacket replica! And again: leather is just a medium not a religion. One can experiment with it and costumers are still free to buy from or not. These same guys made years ago a leather jacket paired with the twill covering the...

    soaking Shinki horsehide in water

I did machine-washed at 30° a 1980's jacket covered in mud, left it to dry several days outside under the shadow, changed all the rusty hardware, added a layer of Foca grease and then warmed up it with a airgun. The jacket came out shiny as the day it left the shop. No shrinkage nor any other...

    Hide for shoes

I say 6sq ft are more than enough. As I said they cut and sew together several small pieces of leather to get the shoe. Here a link to a short tutorial. https://shoesandcraft.com/2013/04/17/wingtip-derby-ii-pattern-tutorial/

    Hide for shoes

I do make shoes as a hobby, moccasins in the style of the Native Americans to be correct and you need a relatively small piece of hide to make a pair. Modern shoes are made sewing together several pieces of leather so you need even less. Here some pics. The sole is cut in a 8,5 size so you get...
