What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

I've had this on my head a couple of times this season, but neglected to take any pics. So this will suffice as its debut. Excelsior Hats. Maybe Stan Lee had an interest? Love the shaped brim and floating sweat-band.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

My one Toquilla straw, in a Cuenca (herringbone) weave. Cheap stretchy sweat band keeps the hat high on my poll in the heat but can be mashed down if the wind picks up. The 2" brim keeps it dignified in town and I can go from church to strand. Got to the surfer's jetty and had to turn around --...

Grabbed the Larry Mahan straw this morning and went to get the beach passes for the summer.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Starting to bust out the straws. Here's an Optimo-style that was last worn at the Opening Ceremonies for the '84 Olympics. Or so I'm told by the previous owner who claimed it was part of the official outfit for Team USA. Walked out on the strand past Surfer's Rock and down to the bird...

    The Cap Faction

Here's my latest, something green from Ireland. Seller says her husband bought it on the Emerald Isle some fifteen years ago. Shandon brand, made in Shandon, County Cork. Has a quilted lining but it's 'for comfort' rather than insulation.

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

I've been wearing fedoras for a couple of years now and the most common remark I get is "My father always wore a hat!" Early on I would ramble a bit about my hat journey and, yes, daddy always wore a hat (short-brimmed - it was the sixties) and my lids are in large part a tribute to him, but now...

What hat are you waiting for today?

Can I throw a cap on the pile? From Ireland, Shandon Hats, a company that's been around for over 120 years. Shandon is also a town in Cork. I wanted something green and Irish. Hoping to get this on my head before the weather gets too warm. The straws are all barking at me: "It's time for MEEE!"

What Cap Are You Wearing Today?

The weather keeps changing, but it was calm enough for a walk on the beach and boards in a light-weight, close-fitting houndstooth cap from Galashiels, Scotland.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Debut of the Kensington (a Stetson brand named for the street in Philly where John B. built his first hat factory). Been waiting for spring to put this one on my pate.

Toronado by Stetson for a blustery day - with Earthquakes! Funky purple ribbon on a green trilby with a squashed, low-profile crown.

    Post New Hats Here!

Cool to see a few people on the same brain-wave looking to summer and getting straws. This one is a faux-boater, not so unrelentingly flat, with a bit of a teardrop crease and a brim with a little character. Unique sweat treatment, it "floats" away from the stiffness of the hat, sewn on with a...

    Post New Hats Here!

I have a "Panama" made in Ecuador with the toquilla straw in a herringbone pattern (Cuenca weave) and the straw is broken in the exact same spot on the pinch.

    Post New Hats Here!

It's an English brand, and my obsession with Irish history (particularly the early 20th century) has revealed that in Britain and the "old" UK trilby and fedora meant the same thing with no distinction re: brim size. And "fedora" was seldom used to describe these hats, they preferred to call...

I dig that edge treatment/binding whatever you call it. I should'a been a cowboy, learned to rope and ride.

What hat are you waiting for today?

Adding to my straw collection with this hybrid boater/fedora. I'm not sure what to call it, can't find the brand anywhere, but looks quality (lined and with a leather sweat). And I where a "skimmer" wouldn't be my look, I think this one will be pretty cool. Anyone seen anything like it before?

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

At Gunther’s Tap Room in Northport, Long Island, notorious drinking hangout of jack Kerouac. Towncraft by JC Penney for Palm Sunday. One of my more formal hats as I put away the black hats I’ve worn through Lent.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Down in my old Jersey hometown today. Some new housing (of course), even a condo development rising out of the swamp, but still a couple of salvage yards on Texas Road east of Route 9. Oh yeah, it's a death trap, but me and my baby got out while we were young. Wearing another black hat for Lent...
