The crown and ribbon on the squatter would look right for sure but the brim at 3"would come up short and miss the whole look I think. It is definitely more fedora than western. Not that I have tried to flatten the brim but the bound edge seems far happier with a curl in it.
Those all look like 4" brims to me. I think the Territory looks the closest as you mentioned and comes in black. The brim will easily flatten right out with a bit of work even just steam/water and weighted down on a flat bench. The brim could be cut back if need be but it already looks very...
I have seen the decline in the rabbit numbers first hand. When I first left school in the mid eighties we had a rabbit shooter that worked the farm I was on which totalled 40,000 acres. In one two thousand acre paddock he shot 2000 pair or 4000 rabbits in two weeks. Now with the active viruses...
I really like the look of the Akubra Safari in the Akubra Overload thread for all the uses you have described. Don't worry about good felt hats being able to handle wet weather, Akubras are renowned for it.
The Bobby really lends itself to major remodelling with its high 6"crown and moderate brim width. I flatten the brim right out and curve it down and back up so the brim edge is level with the ribbon. The crown usually gets a cattleman crease although the last one I have I just pushed out the...
I had to wait 4months and three weeks for a CD and I live only three hours from the Akubra factory. I am sure it would have taken far less time had I ordered through one of the larger online retailers rather than my local saddler.
I also turn the brim down and roll the edge up on the back and sides. The brim down gives more sun protection on the back of the neck while the rolled up edge stops the hat from flying off while riding.
I was a little disappointed to see the ribbon has changed on the Woomera. Gone is the double layer ribbon with three longitudinal stitches, it has been replaced with the same ribbon as the Bobby and Campdraft.
I take the swoop out of the similar shaped Bobby with a fair bit of steam and...
I remember seeing the hat in RM shops and thought it was a "RM" badged Campdraft or Open Road as it was at the time. They had two special colours, a really nice dark moss green and a mid brown. I think the fact that RM wore a really large size makes the crown look that much higher than a...
I hope your wait is a little shorter than mine. I ordered through my local saddler and was prepared for a three month wait... one week shy of five months I get my hats, a fawn Squatter and silverbelly Campdraft.
One month later and a new Bobby was my request for Christmas. My wife ordered...
My son is wearing my previous Bobby in all its holey and stained glory. This particular hat only lasted two and a half years due to a very wet La Nina year which really takes its toll.
